no more evac kit!!!
Recovery from this stupid back surgery has put things on the slow burn, but making progress again. Can't believe I haven't touched the truck in 5 months,, but..... a short drive around town and one of the damn header evac hoses fell against the headers. Stupid junk didn't work well anyways so,,,,,,
Run the same pump on my Nova and it's been rock solid reliable. Oh,, and just a another pic while I was in there. This is a set of AFR 220's next time someone says stock rockers and valve train will work on the 220's,, take note of what it takes to correct the geometry. These are 0.1 / 0.45 offset Crower shaft rockers. A stud rocker walks sideways over the valve tip trying to get to this point with the AFR guide plates. The only complaint I'll ever say about AFR is not calling it straight that the statement that 'ACCEPTS' standard valve train components and 'CORRECT' is two very different things. Now if I can just find enough 1.75" stainless tubing to build up enough sweeps to get the lower radiator hose clear of everything!!!! What a PAIN (and I do mean that physically too) Bending over a fender isn't as 'fun' as it used to be!

Re: no more evac kit!!!
Very true!
Marv, that's a nice looking setup! Take it easy and make sure you heal up. Back problems are nothing to play with.

Marv,
do you mind if I ask a few questions? I also hope you are doing well. Are you running front and rear power valves? Do you remember what you are running for jetting? Is it a good Idea to always run the jetting square on the dual quads? Thanks

Re: no more evac kit!!!
Actually, have it all on the dyno sheets. It yes it has PVs in the front and made best power (there at 2300' elevation 2000' air) with 68/76 jetting, and had to drill our own high speed air bleeds to .040" to get A/F to come around. That was with C-12 fuel,, your particular s.g. of fuel, altitude, and setup may be very different. As I recall they come out of the box pig pfhat at 74/84 jetting.
The dyno was reading a consistant difference in A/f from the collector mounted O2 sensors, but EGT's were within 50° across all 8 at best power. Have to believe it was some annomoly with the O2's or those particular O2's reacting to the massive doses of lead they have seen on Larry dyno.

Re: no more evac kit!!!
These Aerospace kits were on sale last month for $749, but I doubt your going to find anything that will work with the March pulleys, but March will answer that better than I can.

Re: no more evac kit!!!
Marv,
Did you get a chance to see how this pump worked on the 434 before you tore it apart? I'm considering adding one to mine and doing away with the evac setup. Thanks...

Re: no more evac kit!!!
I run the same Aerospace pump on the Nova and it's been there for 4 years without a hint of problem. Put a vacuum gauge on the cowl to glance at with the fuel pressure on top end,,, it's pulling 9" just like it was when I installed it. KEY with these Aerospace pumps is if it doesn't have enough splash in the rocker cover to pull a little oil,, you have to give it a squirt or two on the vacuum side to keep the seals happy. Restricting oil to the top end, and some spring oilers, and just rocker systems don't splash enough arpound to keep the pump oiled. Aerospace told me if your not draining at least a tablespoon or two out of the seperator every race,, it's not enough. I just decided to make it part of my pre-race maintenance, Pretty easy to pop the hose off, two squirts from a antique oil can,, and it's been dead reliable. The Mandril is perfect for a ATI SuperDamper and using a 1/4" motor plate. But have a buddy that mounted it on passengers side head, and used a low mount alternator on the drivers side. He had HELL finding / making pulleys work.
As far as my junk.. the new block should be ready today, with luck JE will shipped the piston last thursday,,, maybe I'll have something to do over the long weekend!!!

Re: no more evac kit!!!
Cool! Maybe you can make some progress this weekend! Hopefully that little M won't need near as much grinding as the 509 did. You know you won't have to worry about hitting water anyway!
I've been looking at the GZ pumps and noticed that they have a street version. This is probably the way I'll go if I decide to do this. I run a low mount alt on the drivers side also and I've been trying to figure out a way to mount the pump above the alt on the drivers side somehow. Good thing I don't have a power steering pump in the way! Thanks for the info Marv!

Re: no more evac kit!!!
Welp,, block is here, crank in, rings filed, #1 - #4 only had to touch up one small spot on the inside face under the pan rail to open it up a tad (had like 0.020" clearance and opened it up to .040). If it goes a smooth today,, will have short block done today,,, motor back in tomorrow.
Man I LIKE the LittleM except for the long slot oil return above the cam. Gonna take a LOT of epoxy and screen to screen that!!! That slot's big enough for a pushrod or lifter parts to fall through!!!

Re: no more evac kit!!!
That's all the grinding needed for a 4" stroke in one of those? Wow. Man, am I tired of dealing with factory blocks and hitting water.
Glad to hear that you've about got it back together!
