Good question. Mine is my only form of transportation. Drive it every day. About every week or so I hose it off under the hood, wipe down the high spots, and spray some tire foam on the rubber stuff. Stays looking pretty good. There is still a lot of detailing needs done on mine, but at least I'm not ashamed to pop the hood.

Air cleaner setup looks good. I looked at your photo album, that is one cool looking pickup! Nice and clean!

Not a truck but here is the last bucket of bolts I put a spit shine on. I am hoping to not get as carried away with the Suburban.

G.H., where did U get the hood liner (Heat shield/Felt) from? Looks like good quality material!

Thanks McSwine the truck was in great condition when I got it. It only had 72k original Arizona miles and the old man took great care of it. I did the resto on the engine compartment in 12days and didn't have to take the motor out.

Heres the thread

not this guy! put all up in the rafters. Even the stock manifolds which i know i'll never use again. lol

appearently i need to get out and snap some pictures of the engine compartment this weekend after i get done putting the new plug wires on and the tach. in.

i did away with the long style valve cover hold downs since shiney chrome didn't really match with older cast aluminum valve covers. lol

My old '80 after I put in a crate engine and modified/restored the factory q-jet:

I never did clean up the firewall or inner fenders, but the engine came out alright I think.

I'm glad at least one person appreciates original engine compartments besides me. My only deviation might be changing the '83 & newer "black" engines to GM corporate blue.

Re: Lets See Some Engine Bay Clean Up Pics...

A few months ago while motor was on engine stand. Had to replace front main seal and replace the crankshaft, as well as all new freeze plugs on enitre motor so it got cleaned up and painted.

Re: Lets See Some Engine Bay Clean Up Pics...

Why isn't Cort in this thread yet? He did a great job on the 5.7 diesel in his brown truck.

Here's mine as it sits right now. I couldn't find a before pic, but it looked pretty typical for an old truck that has had several owners over the years. I still have some detailing left in here, buit I'm saving that until after I get it back on the road. I'm dying to drive it!
