Headliner?

Seems as if mine didn't come with one as I don't see any mounting points or remnants of one. Did some searching and found that not all of these trucks came with one.

Any one installed a headliner in a truck that didn't originally come with one? I'm wanting to seal the cab with sound deadener and more importantly a heat barrier.

Don't really want all that silver on my roof, want something nicer.

Re: Headliner?

As I recall, if you search the car interior supplier websites they will list headliners for both trucks with and without factory headliners.
Do you have all of the trim pieces around the roof to cover the edge of the headliner? If not, a local upholstery shop can make a headliner up for you with a finished edge that should look OK. With the stock trim pieces the headliner will just pop into place and be held up/trimmed out by those trim pieces. You can still buy those trim pieces new (LMC, etc.) or get them at the junkyard and clean/paint them up. My 83 headliner is made of a dense fiberglass material which I like better than the cardboard one - it is more flexible and adds a little insulation/sound deadening.

Re: Headliner?

My recollection is that Silverado came with a headliner; Scottsdale and Custom Delux did not (my '87 Scottsdale did not come with a headliner).

As mentioned, the headliner is held in place by the A pillar and side interior garnish trim.

Re: Headliner?

It's a custom deluxe. No pillar trim.

I wouldn't mind it so much if I lived in a cooler climate, but when the exterior temp. gets 115, I want something more than sheet metal between me and the elements!

Re: Headliner?

Time to hit the junk yards! Pick yourself up all the trim, and the headliner out of one that came factory with it. Install it in your truck by dry fitting all the pieces, and drilling pilot holes for all the pieces. It'll go right in.

This is funny, I just ripped all of the interior pieces out of mine...

Re: Headliner?

If you want to sound deaden the cab and limit the heat, then try the "Lizard skin" approach.

Interesting... Looks like there are two products for what I'm looking for. Cermaic coating for heat and Sound coating for sound deadening, both are $85/gallon. I'm gonna go take a look at the product tomorrow.

LOL! Mesa, AZ is the reason my truck has A/C!

(I had already ordered my truck here in Michigan, and then learned we were moving to Mesa. I caught the order and had them add a/c to it).

We were there for four years, from 1989 to Jan 1 of 1994.

Re: Headliner?

My truck came with some god awful house carpet glued in for a headliner and behind the seat ect with construction adhesive. I ripped it all out and replaced it with some gray speaker box type carpet and installed factory trim I got from a member on here. I Used 3m spray can carpet adhesive and its held up fine all summer and with a leaking crappy sunroof im about to replace with a new one.

I am planning on doing the whole cab on my 68 project with this.

Re: Headliner?

Drill some holes in the roof from inside the cab and fill the entire roof with expanding foam then patch up the holes and paint it. My roof sounds like a surfboard when you tap it. It is filled solid with the foam. The cab isn't back on the truck yet but I'm sure it is gonna help with both heat and sound.
