Need to fill in gauge area on lift of cluster?
I have a nice rebuilt gauge cluster with factory tach for my 65' chevy, but i want to fill in the left side thats empty. Ive been searching for a while for something i could put there that would look clean and factory.
Considering it has a diesel, id like to somehow incorporate a Boost gauge or Pyrometer. And if i strike out there, something that could monitor the air pressure for my bag system. Anyone with ideas or references for someone that could build a custom gauge let me know. |

Re: Need to fill in gauge area on lift of cluster?
i thought about that, problem is theyr hard to find! when you do find one, they want crazy money for it, and it only goes up to 150 psi.
but if i find one i'll use it! I've searched aircraft gauges, large truck gauges, and vintage gauges trying to find pyro or boost that i can make look factory, no dice so far. HELP |

Compressors make 200psi. A boost gauge would be cool too, keep in mind for you ideas. I know there was a factory VAC gauge, i dont know if i could find one of those and convert it to boost.

Re: Need to fill in gauge area on lift of cluster?
I like the mid-60's pontiac vac gauges for the left cluster - they are a close match to the lettering/look of stock 66 gauges. That's what I'm putting in when I get around to it - grabbed one at the last L.A. Roadster show. One note when buying, bring a vac line with you, hook it up, and suck, just to make sure it works. This particular guy had 3 pristine gauges for sale, only one worked (and I chose that one...) - here's a pic of one in the pontiac bezel (the bezel is why they can be expensive) - but the needle sweep is nice for sitting it in our truck clusters. You only use the gauge face and mount it in our cluster, i.e. the "pontiac" part is not used nor is the bezel - but this is where it comes from - and you can use this fact in your bargaining - because often the seller would love to hang onto the chrome cup and let you have the guts for less.

Re: Need to fill in gauge area on lift of cluster?
See my '64 build thread on the way I took a Pontiac vacuum gauge and made it look 100% factory for cheap. If you do find one, I'll send you my extra vacuum gauge overlay. Simple mod.

Re: Need to fill in gauge area on lift of cluster?
I got mine off eBay years ago. I see them on there every once in a while, usually rebuilt with different options, like tach and clock and such. Mine came with a chromed bezel.

I'm still trying to find a clock that would fit on the left side. I've seen a few. I guess it will have to be a swap meet find.
