What "dye" for my door pannels? (pics)

Thinking about reding my door panels and dash. They are all in farily good shape so i think a dye job would bring them back to life. What would you recomend as far as brand/color to make these look "new"? Thank you!

Re: What "dye" for my door pannels? (pics)

I just redyed mine. The first coat lasted over a year and only had minor scratches. I used SEM Color Coat, bought it at an O'Reilly's that has a paint department. I could take some pics tomorrow if you'd like to see it.
By the way clean old truck.

Re: What "dye" for my door pannels? (pics)

Thanks! I have been thinking about starting a thread on it cause im doing some work to it at the moment, Its pretty darn good for a FREE truck! Needs some work here and there but not too shabby over all. Thinking i might try the SEM stuff as there is an o-reillys right down the road and i guess they would probably have it. If they dont, i might try out the color bond stuff from LMC.

Only one brand to use, its SEM. Take a look here for details on how to do it and make it last "Vinyl Dye Interior Pieces "

Re: What "dye" for my door pannels? (pics)

When I did mine, I just cleaned the parts with hot soapy water using dish soap (palmolive) then after they dried, I went over them completely with rubbing alcohol (NOT JIM BEAM!) I then sprayed the plastics with Dupli-color ADHESION PROMOTER (parrt # CP199) 3-4 coats. Then afterwards hit it with dupli-colors bahama blue. That was 4 years ago. Still holding up pretty good.

Only pics I could find showing my repainted interior pieces.

I used SEM Palomino color. SEM adhesion promoter did not work for me - just made the SEM paint sticky and blotchy. Anything you paint on will scratch off if you have an area where something rubs against it - like my driver's seat belt snapping back against the armrest scratches the paint off - but it touches up easily.

I've heard lots of good things about SEM products from this board and others around the net . UNFORTUNATLY FOR ME.... Everyplace I've contacted in my area doesn't carry it or has never heard of it. So I went with what I could find. So in short, if you can find SEM products in your area use them.

Re: What "dye" for my door pannels? (pics)

I have used all kinds of vinyl dye in spray cans. There is also plastic paint in spray cans. You HAVE to make sure it's clean and you have to use 2-3 very thin coats. Don't try to one heavy coat it. Also if they ever used armorall good luck... it will never stick. Armorall is a very BAD product.

I like shaklee basic cleaner to clean the surface. Maybe a scrub brush. Sometimes you have to sand the plastic pieces. I also disassemble and paint each piece seperately.

SEM

The key to a great quality job is the prep. Just make sure the parts are clean and follow the recommended instructions on the color coat and you'll be happy with the results....

SEM is great product if you can't find that brand, "Marhyde" is another good one not sure if that is the corect spelling. Prep Prep Prep is key to any of these products lasting. Good Luck
