Sudden hesitation and rough idle?

I have an 86 chevy c10 with a new drivetrain, well it was new last spring so it has about 20k on it now but all the sudden lately it has started idling really rough when I start it cold and takes a few minutes to sound normal. If I don't wait long enough sometimes it stalls as soon as I shift into gear. It also has been hesitating for the first few miles when I accelerate. I'm not sure if I just need to run Seafoam through it or what! Any suggestions?

Re: Sudden hesitation and rough idle?

Play with the choke, seems like that could be a part of it. Electric or manual choke? If it's electric it might not be functioning properly.

Re: Sudden hesitation and rough idle?

I'm not sure how exactly to play with it, but when mine broke I just replaced the electric choke module. It cost about $30 and it solved my problem. What carb are you running?

Sure it could be the choke, but it also sounds like a vacuum leak. Check the intake bolts, carb bolts, all vacuum lines, etc. That's what I'm guessin.

Re: Sudden hesitation and rough idle?

It stops doing it after it has been running a few minutes. I ran Seafoam through it today and that stuff made a world of difference even just in the idle, also changed the oil after running the Seafoam through and spotted some wetness underneath so now another thing to try to figure out! Rough few weeks for my truck.

Find out what DOES work properly and you'll figure out what doesn't work properly.
