My shifter broke this morning!

Morning guys,

This morning I went to drop my youngest off at daycare and when I went to put the truck in Park, snap! Something inside the column broke and I can no longer engage Park and the lever just flops around. Luckily I can start the truck in N and still operate all the gears so I can get to work...this is my daily driver.

Truck is a 1972 GMC 350/350 combo all original non tilt column.

So without being able to open things up until tonight...can anyone tell me what I have done, what most likely broke and what I'm going to have to do to fix this? I'd like to order parts or find another column/linkage if I have to today to get the ball rolling. I"m assuming this isn't going to be an easy fix.

Thanks for the help!

Bryan

Re: My shifter broke this morning!

Did a little searching for my problem and sounds like I have broken the end of my shift lever off...I'll pull it tonight and check. Now to find a new lever.

Re: My shifter broke this morning!

Ok one more question...is there a difference between years of the shift levers? I found a column on c'list here locally

I have wondered the same thing. I have a few shift levers from 72 model trucks. If you need one I'll be happy to send you one.

Re: My shifter broke this morning!

I have it pulled out at my office and trying some JB weld on the tip that broke off. Hopefully it will hold enough to get the truck in reverse as it's nosed into the building I work in! I'll see if I can get one off this column in town.
