60 gallon compressor....h.depot tools.....

So since I purchased unit I've had issues. Repiped it 8 times. Tools I have are kits from h.d. problem I have and don't understand is why won't the gun
Actually loosen any bolts. When u worked on 85. I ended up wrenching everything I did because compressor or tools were not strong enuff.
Trans went on 85
Picked up an 86 and want to swap parts but is like to be able to utilize the compressor.
Any ideas?
Will more expensive tools help?

I've been looking online for pics and info. And from simple set ups to complex, they are all working. Mine don't work right. No reason I should have big compressor and be using braker bar.

Could the outlet on your compressor be slightly plugged with rust? The other is the gun you are using is worn out. Can you hook up a hose directly to the compressor and see if you gun has more power? That way you rule out your plumbing. Hope you can get it fixed.

not sure if i have rust build up?
compressors realativley new and used say 15 times. everytime i use it i drain it. hoping all water gets out.
dont think i can hook up direct without re piping.
but yesterday when i did throw pipes, i made a short run. and then off a t i ran 30-40 ft of black pipe. hoping the shorter run will power tools and longer one i can use if i prime or do more bodywork. thinking altho i read air needs to cool, that the shorter run might give me more power to tool

dont know man. but i hope to figure it out too.

not sure why but the filter and pressure reg, i picked up at h.d. where i got compressor from are 3/8 or 1/4 in. so thats why its from little to big in area's.
sorry if pics aint the greatest. but just so you see what im working with.

Sounds like you have a cheap impact wrench. Try borrowing a quality impact wrench and see if that works better. Not all impact wrenches are created equal.

I think I've seen these pics before. (lol) I've got the same gun, not very powerful. I was lucky to get all 8 lugs off one wheel. At least we don't have to worry about breaking rusted bolts.

Pressure setting? Couple drops of air tool oil into the gun can help, I do this with most of my air tools (especially iirc. you were having water issues before). Wish I were closer....

well, you seen pics i posted. but might have been my 3rd or 4th time doing it.
now the way i ran pipe is a short run for quicker connection and short run.
i saw a pic of another guys set up. was similar to what i tried. then on the run that goes up, i thought that would help air cool if thats my problem.

man i wish you were closer too, would be nice to get the thing working the way it should.
hopefully one day ill be able to use tool and compressor together.

think tank builds to 135.
then on the regulator, i thought i shoud put it to 90. figuring thats what tool runs at. but i noticed that when i ran the da. guage would show say 100, but when i squeezed trigger, it would be less. so i put it to 120 or so, to see if i get closer to 90 at tool

I don't think the air compressor or piping is your problem. I think it is your impact wrench. Take a look at this:

Those differences are just in the Husky line. You go to Snap On and Mac and your torque is 600+.

believe it or not, the Harbor freight Earthquake line of impacts are decent. We have a few at work in the shared tool boxes. As far as power, I would put them up against my rockwell, and chicago pneumatic impacts at home. I think a 1/2" is about $90.

If I was going to be beating on it 5 days a week for a living, I would step up. For home, I think the earthquake is a reasonable choice.

I usually set my regulator 100 -120#, I may drop it a little if I'm using a nailgun.

71swb4x4 posted some links on some different "Husky" branded guns, I don't think mine is rated for the 350lbs he posted (mine's a CH brand) but if I crack the bolts with a breaker and remember to do the final torque be hand, I'm set.

How did the DA run on your current set-up?
I'm leaning toward the gun being the issue now, or maybe your expectations of what you have. A 20.00 gun will not do the same as a 120.00 gun, otherwise they're be no need for the 120.00 one. At some point I'm upgrading mine, but for now...

Get a better impact. Im a fan of ingersol air tools. A lot of snap on and matco stuff is made by ingersol. You want something in the 600ft lb neighborhood. The cheaper tools sometimes seem like they BS there torque ratings. IF the gun just sits and hammers its likely too weak. The thunder gun from ingersol would be more than enough for you but it will set you back about 200 bucks.

Well today I was messing with truck. Swapping dash pads , fixing radio,swapping speakers, messing with Carb......ran compressor then later in the day grabbed the gun and tried lugs.....played with 1_4 settings. And at 4. They broke the lugs loose. So not sure if I'm goood. If I get a chance tomorrow or during week il test it again.
I appreciate all replies fellas. Prob gonna look for better tools when cash is available. Not a mechanic. But trying my hand at it.

With a gun like the one you have. The settings under max are going to be about useless. I would just leave it on 4. Upgrade as you go. Having the right tool makes most jobs easy. Even if you are learning as you go.

similar problem once took regulator out of picture and problem went away. If you need a regulator on a tool then get one you can switch from tool to tool. just my .02 and good air tools never hurt anyone!
