Angry Re: '67-'72 K40's-90's 4X4's

That thing is sweet...Owner has dumped a ton of $$$into it...Truck has under 12,000 actual miles...was red originally...built by a company in tennesse,,,shipped to MN IN 73 for the iron range in northern MN..then sold to a local sign company...current owner has used it for parades only since 1993.....HE WILL NOT BUDGE MUCH OFF THE LISTED PRICE....

That one currently is on craigslist, would love to have it but feel its a bit pricey, especially needing front axle work..

"Needs work to make front axle engage" or needs work to use front axle? Makes a big difference to me. I like it!

Re: '67-'72 K40's-90's 4X4's

I just shot him an email and he replied:

"I have owned this truck for many years. The former owner says he loaned it to his son in law and the truck came back with the four wheel drive not useable. He took the transfer case out and had a new drive line made. The truck is very useable as is but of course to have the front axle working again it will need that work done. He did give me the transfer case when I bought the truck so I do have it and a drive line. The shift levers and linkage are still installed. It does have very little rust. But no it is not completely rust free.

Re: '67-'72 K40's-90's 4X4's

I think NAPCO was still doing conversions up into the late 60's, but most of those large trucks were converted by Coleman or Marmon-Herrington. I have seen a few 6X6's too.

Re: '67-'72 K40's-90's 4X4's

Found this bad boy in a farmers yard one day. He said it used to be a REC truck with a post hole digger on it. He's had it for quite a while and drove it home 500 miles when he bought it. He said the only thing he wished he would have done is when he rebuilt the engine he would have converted it to a diesel.

Nice one! I guess technically there's no such thing as any K-models above K/20. Anything larger is a converted C-model. I had a '71 C/30 Napco.

When did Chevy start making factory 4X4 50's, 60's, etc.?

Re: '67-'72 K40's-90's 4X4's

I'm not sure they've ever done it. As far as I know they are still converted. I guess the 4500s and 5500s are factory, but I know my power company's line trucks are converted from 2wd still.
