Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
Finally got the go ahead from the wife. Most of the local trucks I see are beat or rusty but this one popped up today. Going to go look at it tomorrow, the guy isn't negotiable more than $100-200 on price he says. What should I look for and do you think it is a good deal? Thanks

Re: Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
Sounds a bit high to me: Unknown engine specs with 2 owners, rough interior, TH350 with a built BB may or may not last long, new 20" tires not cheap (but I would replace with stock wheels anyway).
Photos show a decent looking truck, but to me the $$ are too much. It would have to be absolutely rust free perfect at that price to even consider.

Re: Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
It does sound a little high, but if it checks out good you might take cash and make an offer.
Check it out real good before making an offer. Crawl under it and check out the cab supports, trailing arms and frame. Also a magnet ran over the body will tell how much bondo has been used. Good luck.

Re: Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
If it were me, I would only offer $2800 tops if it was tight and a good driver. too many things need to be done for it to be a $4500.00 truck, IMO.

Looks like a SWB truck to me. If no rust and runs well I would go $3000 on it.

Re: Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
It's got a cobbed up power steering pump setup on it, make sure they didn't cut the frame rail so the lines would fit, I've seen this more than once...it was a small block or 6cyl..check the SPID for E code, then check the mounts etc to see if it was done right. Crawl all over it and take a flashlight so you can see everything, don't worry about pissin him off..it's your money your spending. Take your time and remember...this ain't the only truck on the planet.
Good Luck

Re: Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
Alot of it comes down to how much work do you want to do on the truck? Do you want a project, or someone's finished project or something you can hop in and drive but still needs a bit of work. I'd be most interested in that side step if he could come down on the price a bit.

Re: Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
All of those trucks have been on Craigslist for a long time as I look daily. But they are hard to find in this area . If you are interested in a 67 or 68 longbed I know where one is for $1800 I think and its unmolested original and looks solid. Its not mine but I can get the guys name and # if you like.

Re: Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
Out here in Cali a truck like the first is about a $3000-4000 truck. Would have to see in person but if the cab is solid and it is a shorty then with the big block he would get close to that around here.

Re: Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
$$$$ a little high to me. Poorly dyed interior, crap tires, unknown engine specs (the guy that had it before him might have painted and thrown in a stock 454 from the junkyard ya never know for sure, same goes for the tranny). I would show up with $3500 in my pocket and offer $3000 after I had gone over it with a fine toothed comb. As stated earlier check engine mounting, check for bondo, check underside for rust, and check the wiring. I have seen some electrical nightmares after engine transplants and twisted wires and electrical tape will only leave you stranded.

If I were looking for one right now, I'd be on the one in Pendergrass. Could be a smokin' deal.

Re: Thinking of buying first truck, what do you think of this truck?
Looks good to me. Worth looking at .. go check it out. It's not going to cost anything but your time. Let us know what you find.
There was a 72 SWB Fleetside in Macon for $2k on CL the other day. Really solid and good looking truck. Not sure if the guy sold it. $1800 would prob buy it. Original paint, Hugger Orange / White top. It was a Custom too if I am not mistaken.
