Hood closing problems
Hello again!
Hoping I can get some more help with my truck! When I close my hood, the back of it (the part near the windshield) sticks up above the top of the front fenders. I can push it down into place, but it seems to spring back up. What's the best way to fix this? This is not my truck, but this is what I am referring to:

Re: Hood closing problems
Lube your hinges they are prolly very dry.. you MAY have to replace them if you cant get them good and freed up

Re: Hood closing problems
What's the best product/method for lubricating these hinges?
Appreciate the quick reply!

Re: Hood closing problems
Like old Rusty said you definitely need to lube them. Mine were pretty bad and bent my hood real good. Or you could get new one's...that's what I ended up doing. As for lube, I used white lithium grease on mine. That stuff works miracles

Re: Hood closing problems
I use grease where possible, motor oil on things like hinge pins and whatnot you can't really get to. Maybe hit them with WD to get them loosened up, then go from there.

Re: Hood closing problems
Thought that was my truck at first. I do have the same problem on the drivers side.

Re: Hood closing problems
Take care of that soon, otherwise you will have classic Chevy hood crunch, where the hood buckles in the middle. Also, buy some hood stiffeners from LMC and other vendors to prevent that from happening.

Re: Hood closing problems
I've had the same problem since buying my 74. I've lubed the s*** out of it and the hinge works freely, but the drivers' side corner still won't pull all the way down. I've decided that the hinge mount on the inside of the fender is too high. Next thing I'm going to do it make the mounting holes larger so I can get the hinge to seat further down on the fender. More on this when I get finished . . .

I thought though that the crunch in the middle was also a safety feature in case that the truck was in a head on collision but I could be wrong.

Re: Hood closing problems
I lubed all the hinges really well and now the driver's side sits flat, but the passenger side sits up a little still.
I'll try adjusting the hinge itself to go lower tomorrow. Thanks for all of the help!
