Thumbs up interesting/rare option... proof of 16.5 inch 6 lug rims

was looking at some outdated adds on www.rustfreeclassics.com, and was looking at a 72 k/5 blazer. Was a typical 4X4 (actually well equipped) but when looking at the SPID, I saw 16.5 rims and tires optioned on there. The VIN clearly states it is a K/5 blazer, and a 1/2 ton (only way you could get it) so putting 2 plus 2 = factory 6 lug 16.5 inch rims from GM.

I've only seen those 1 other time. The truck at 0:23 in my video below has those rims. They used a 3/4 cap, and they look really tough on a 1/2 ton. I had several pics of that truck and some info on my computer, but I lost in our fire last year.

Re: interesting/rare option... proof of 16.5 inch 6 lug rims

10.00 16.5's were an option on the K-5's and K-10's then. I put a set on the rear of my 69 C-10 back in the day so I could carry extra weight looked kind of tuff with the 15's on the front. The cool set up back then was 10.00's on the front and 12.00's on the rears for the 2X4's and 12.00's all the way around on the 4X4's

I didn't get to comment on this earlier but it did stick with me today as I looked at my just purchased K/10. I did score 2 15x8's but had to look again when I got there today just to make sure.

No suprise for us purists. Even on the front page of a Chevy Blazer brochure. The period factory look never goes out of style!

I wonder why it is listed 3 times? with 3 different option numbers? I could see a second listing for a spare, but why the third?

Common on commercial trucks to list front axle tires, rear axle tires and the spare tire.

When referring to a K/5, commercial truck does not spring to mind first.

I'm sure that some of them were, Forrestry Service, etc..

It is set up to allow the user to specify front and rear tires as well as a spare. So different types and sizes could be mounted on a vehicle and a best match spare could also be specified. An example would be a camper with standard size highway tires on the front and off road rears with a spare matching the fronts for planned rotation. If the ply ratings were different front to rear, then the spare would match the highest load tire. In cases where the customer was going to provide their own tires a wheel alone could be provided.
Sorry to be drawn out on this but I had a chevy truck salesman as a mentor growing up in this time period. He made sure the previous edition salesmans guide got to me when I was still in grade school. Wish I still had them but they were on an exchange basis. My friends would play with trucks and I liked to build them, didn't seem at all strange at the time. :-)

The photo of the truck you mention was mine at the time (photo taken in my driveway). Those are 15" wheels I bought from JoesJunk and had powder-coated. They were GM wheels and I believe they were 8" wide. I love the look. Here is a photo of the truck with Ralleys (I prefer the white steel wheels though). That is an original paint 32,000 mile truck from Anaconda Montana!!

I think this sounds correct because the Build Sheet has a separate line for the Front, Rear, and Spare tires. Here's an example. Notice the first Tire Line begins with F, the second Tire line begins with R and the third Tire line begins with S.

The truck is a '72 and has AWESOME options (HD front, Tow-hooks, etc.). The color is MEDIUM GREEN. It is a non-metallic green. My kids insisted it was blue (they were more in line with the Aqua color).
