What rearend????
I am need of a rearend for my 69! It will be layed out and bd to lay pinch welds.
I need to know what my best route would be. I am currently 6 lug but I am not against swapping to 5. I was wondering about the Caprices. I think I need something a little narrower than stock. thanks Brad W |

as far as what u need// need info on engine power you are planning a 200hp or 600hp engine will need differnt strengths to live// as far as width need info on rims with backspace etc

Forgot about that. I have a mild 350, with a 700r4 behid it. This is going to be a cruiser not a racer. I was wonder about Caprices, Regal, S-10's. Anything I can pick up easily at a Pull-a-part.

the s10 and g body but for the grand national and 442 used a 7.5 10 bolt which is kinda weak.I would be looking for a 10 or 12 bolt from a truck you'll have to change the spring perches but that's not hard.

I believe stock width is 60.5" I am looking to something close to that. But strong enough to hold up to my motor. It isnt going to be a race car but I dont want it to take a dump on me at a stop light.

Don't overlook the 8.8" rear out of a Fox body Mustang....
Easy to find. Used housings can be found already beefed up. Strong ((falls between the 10 & 12 bolt in strength). Huge aftermarket support. Disc brake kits & 5-lug axles readily available.

Scoti the 8.8 from a explorer is used for a alot of swaps early mustangs and some jeeps.

The explorer is wider then the mustangs like a inch or two but its 31 spline and most are a factory lsd too.They do have a off center diff which can be fixed like you said shorten the one side.

67-68 is 55.5" plate to plate. Some early 69's
69-72 is 57" plate to plate. or, the WMS measurement if you prefer. Find an early rear end housing and you can run a wheel with .75" less Backspacing (looks wider / more lip)
