Question For Swervin
Mike:
A short while ago you replaced your tranny cooler because you mounted it where the hood latch got to it. Was it mounted too high or low if front? I am moving mine in front of my A/C condenser and was wondering where best to put it up front.

Mitch,
I have removed the AC from my truck, including the condenser. I used some metal strap to mount it. Make sure to check when the latch goes in the hole in the core support it has room to hook without hitting the cooler. This pic is where it was when I first installed it. Never knew it would hit. It didn't cross my mind until I saw fluid running out. I bought another one just like it and made sure to drop it down some.

Thanks Mike! It gives me what I need to look out for.

I have one in my '86 with A/C that was installed by the previous owner. If you would like a pic while the grill is out, send me an email.

78SilveradoSWB: As per your email request, I am posting it here. Well, you asked me to email it, but I am posting it so others might benefit... This is how mine is mounted. It is screwed to the front of the center brace on the right and the core support on the left.

Thanks for the pic... Most of the coolers come with those plastic screws that goes through the radiator fins. Is that a bad idea? You and Swervin chose metal bracing.

I have no idea. It was installed by the previous owner. I'm just freshening it up with new hoses and some paint. I can't say I would be crazy about mounting it to my condenser, though.

It appears to be pretty common practice, just like mounting electric fans using the same method. Probably not good though if you were doing four-wheeling.....

I don't like the idea of mounting the cooler directly to the radiator or condenser with the plastic things. It would probably be OK as I'm sure there are plenty of folks with them this way. With the luck I have, it would probably rub a hole in something.
