Original vs. Custom
I am about to start the restoration on a '72 3/4 ton. My dad says I should do it all original because it will be worth more. But I want to mod the motor and upgrade the interior. What kind of difference in value would an original truck be over a nicely done custom?

Agreed.
Besides, it is only worth what some one will give you for it. |

I really like the idea of customizing the interior. I want a classic looking truck(original exterior) with a modern interior. I also want it to look just as beautiful under the hood...

I have looked at it both ways. When it really comes down to it, do what you want! it's your truck and YOUR the one whos gonna be putting the blood sweat and tears into it.
When you plan it out though, you might look at how something is going to affect the resale value. For that reason, I am going slightly customized, but retaining the stock look.

i think you got it right about keeping it semi stock looking but the interior is a must for updating imo, cd players are always nice or maybe a newer style seat...

If you are going to keep it and make a daily driver out of it.. Make it the way you want. C/D in the dash, speakers in the doors, fuzzy dash board, twice pipes from the big block back!

This is Gee_Emm's truck. The perfect example of how nice you can make the engine look and maintain a beautiful stock 3/4 look on the exterior

Since most of these trucks have been modified, I prefer the stock restorations.

lol, a nicely done custom will be worth more if it's done right, but you have to be happy with it either way....and like cdowns said, you probably won't make any money on it anyhow. I'm lucky if I break even every time I sell a car.

I am customizing my truck to suit my needs. There is no way in hell I would ever get the money back out of this truck, that i have put in. I think you should just do whatever you feel is right. If you plan on selling it, then a stock restoration wouldn't be a bad idea. It just makes it easier for the next owner to customize the hell out of it

Hey Jeff, I'm still confused, are you for stock or custom?

If it is your money, do what you want. what ever makes you happy. my wife wanted to keep my truck stock ( 71' gmc 3/4 ton custom camper) but we came to an arangement. i do what i want to the truck and as long work the overtime to pay for it. see she wanted to keep it stock cause it was given to us when a member of her family died. the truck has been in the family since ordered form the factory new. i feel that just the looks of the truck are great and with a little modification it could be one killer ride. and like i tell her, it will still be in the family and one day we can give it to one of my three sons.
