Re: Rear end help
A quicker way to start is to check the glovebox for the build sheet and see if it is listed in the option group. Then check the passenger side behind the seat for a sticker/label stating that the vehicle is equipped with the positraction axle.
Next, you can jack up the back of the truck and rotate one of the wheels. Usually both wheels will rotate in the same direction. If the wheels rotate in opposite directions...usually (not always) the differential is an 'open' (non-posi) type. There are a few exceptions to this. Good Luck Coley

Re: Rear end help
My rear end looks like the one on the left, but the springs in mine are real close to each other. Thers no gap in between them like the one in the pic. So i wonder if it is posi or not ?

Re: Rear end help
Hi Outlaw, if you can see the springs you have a posi. if you turn the carrier inside the housing you would see 2 more spings on the other side they are directly opposite ofthe ones you can see now. There are 4 springs the same type in there

Re: Rear end help
The fact that the numbers on the axle tube may read posi, and the SPID read posi, doesn't mean there is one. I have bought several cars over the years that said posi (g80) rear, and have not had one. the best way is to open it up.
