Yep, all day long.... as long as its not on while driving, you ok...its for the hydraulic brake circuit and will stay on if there is a problem with the brakes.....

Re: E-brake light comes on...

the brake light is not for the emergancy brake in any way shape or form
brake light is for the hydraulic brake system when it comes on it means there is a pressure differental between front and rear brake systems

Re: E-brake light comes on...

I have this issue too and thought it was the E-Brake light. How do I fix this correctly so the light goes off?

Re: E-brake light comes on...

There is a thread somewhere on how to wire up a switch to the E Brake so that it does use that warning light should you drive off with your E Brake on...a mod I must get round to doing as i'm always forgetting to release the E Brake.

Re: E-brake light comes on...

Hi, I did the e brake mod yesterday connecting a brake light switch to the e brake and to the warning light circuit. It IS very cool (and cheap) and it is something I would encourage any one to do. But my brake light has never illuminated during starting or at any other time, although my generator light would. In fact I worried my brake light had a bad bulb or a short. Unlike the post above, my brake light only comes on now when the e brake is depressed and only while the engine is running (In the mod it says it works whe the key is in the on position but not acc. Not mine, it only illuminates when the engine is runnng (??!!)). Must be similar trucks are not wired exactly the same. G.

Re: E-brake light comes on...

Oops, forgot to add that to make the light go out you must re-center the proportioning valve. Known as "centering": either jam the brakes really hard or push in the pin that is covered under a rubber protector on the valve. With the pin depressed it will allow fluid to go to both front and back systems. This will equalize the brakes. At least you know you don't have a problem in the warning circuit! G.

How many miles have I driven with the e-brake on? I need to look at the <$50 mod to get that brake light TO come on with the ebrake!

It really is worth doing. My truck had the little braket on the e brake already, so all I needed to do was wire up the switch. The wiring diagram shows 2 tan (20T) wires going to the ignition switch, but my truck only has 1. I figure this is why the brake light only works with the engne running!
