Vin help

Hey guys... I'm looking at buying a truck. I have one located....one thing that is throwing me of is according to the vin decoder it has a 84-89 inch axle to cab. However this is a short box truck. Also this is the largest number the show...does this mean it's a chopped truck?

Re: Vin help

Chris, Your vin won't tell wheelbase, The model number does. I think you used the model number decoder with your vin.
C=2wd
E=v8
1=1/2 ton
4=cab and bed
0=1970
J=janesville assy plant
123736= build sequence

Your model number should be CE10734 or CE10704 for a stepside.

Re: Vin help

This may be a stupid question but im going to ask anyway. I had a 68 that had coils on the rear. At any point did this era of truck ever come with leafs? this is on a SWB

Re: Vin help

Chris, on the Chevy C-10's, coils were standard but leafs could be had as a option.

Re: Vin help

As Bruce says you could have both on the 2wd's. I have no idea what production numbers were for leafs vs coils but both are common on the 2wd trucks.

I would probably regret it but I have a number correct 402 from my Burb that I "should" sell. It ran a few months ago but I just pulled it to install a rebuilt 402. I've been into cars/trucks/bikes all my life too. I've met 2 other local guys on here so we'll have to do something cuz I know there's others nearby. Talk to ya later.
