rear main seal
im pretty sure the rear main seal is leaking on my 86 gmc 2500. its leaking around the bell housing but then again its also leaking of the front diff. so its got me thinking its either the rear main seal or oil pan gasket i plan on changing the oil pan gasket on the next oil change since its easy but just wanted to know if it is the rear main seal if anybody has used the rear main seal stop leak and did it work at all?

Re: rear main seal
Stop leak products turn all ALL your engine seals to mush they are a temporary fix and great to run for a weak to sell to the dealer

Re: rear main seal
its a once piece seal... I'd just change it out... way easier than a 2 piece.. just need to unblolt the trans.

Re: rear main seal
it may or may not be, I belive in late 85 they transitioned to one piece for passenger vehicles and it was later for trucks at either rate he still has to drop the pan to unbolt it

Should be able to be slipped out like a balancer seal or rotor seal etc. Though I could be wrong.. Drawing a blank honestly how it sits in the aluminum piece.. Even though I've torn down hundreds lol.. Kinda sad Posted via Mobile Device
