Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
I just found another thread that states if you plan to run power brakes you cannot run your stock wiper motor. I also saw something about brake fluid effecting the ABS plastic in the Vintage Air.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=411218 All things considered I think I will skip the 90 Deg master although I really want to clean up the firewall. Steve

Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
i'm not sure how much room you have in the older trucks, but i installed a hydroboost in my 58 truk.
$100 for the hydroboost and mc from an 03 mustang. i used the mounting plate to make this bracket with the stock swing arm and pedal. and here is the install. i used a remote reservoir from a mercury villager. i fill it on the firewall

Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
I have some pictures in my build thread. We have the Kugel unit. I have since added some braces to stiffen the top where it meets the firewall, but I can't find any pictures of that. Hope this help.

Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
Have you ever thought about running it on the outside of the frame under the cab? You could box the frame where the shaft would have to pass thru, put bearings on the shaft (sealed bearings of course), and run your brake lines insede the frame using bulkhead fittings. I'm thinking of doing this with a hydroboost system, and I plan on running my braided hydraulic lines inside the frame to the power steering pump. I could see how this would work with a regular booster maybe........... probably wouldn't hurt to figure out some kind of cover for protection from road crappola....

Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
That's the way it was on my 56. I thought of that but really didn't want to run the brake pedal outside of the cab through a hole in the floor on my 69 (sorry, just saw this was a 47-59 thread). I may have to think about this some more.

Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
Just doesn't seem like there is a lot of room left under the dash after the pedal and booster where installed. I really don't want to attach it to the frame rail, but I have the S10 booster so I may have to look into running it on the firewall.

Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
We have never had a problem with our under the dash unit on the 48-54 0r 55-59 chevy trucks or gmc trucks. There is room for the ac unit and there is room for the wiper motor.
It gets tight on 60-66 67-72 73-87 trucks only. There are after market wiper kits out there that will give you more room to as a option out there. Justin |

Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
Thanks I will give you a call today and check pricing. I'm doing a lot of body work right now but if I can get a good deal on parts I don't mind buying stuff I'm not ready for yet.

Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
Careful buying parts you don't intend to use for a time. Some parts people only warranty their stuff for a short period, and will not exchange after that.

under the dash is the a/c and heat, dual diaphragm booster and master, wipers, drivers for the gauges, fuel panel and a whole lotta wiring.

Re: Under Dash Mounted Master Cylinder??
Yeah I read that is your post that sucks. I did the same thing to a 79 cutlass supreme in high school. It was static dropped about 2 inches off the ground and I ran over a filling whole at a gas station that wasn't closed all the way. It ripped a whole in the floor and did a bunch of damage to the tranny.
