The bolt patterns are different from single to double wall tops, I know because my double wall did not fit my Jimmy, it came with a single wall from the factory. There are a few guys on here that have modified rigs that have bolt patterns for both single and double wall tops.
My single wall had lights on the inside by the window that looked factory, my double had a gaudy dome light in the center that doesn't look factory.

One Blazer of mine came with a double wall top, I switched it to a single, and the holes for the single were already there. They are slotted with captured nuts under the bed rail.
They were then covered with a body caulking of some kind. The other Blazer came with a single wall top but does not have holes for the double wall top. Does that goofy dope lite in yours mount on a little plastic bracket in the middle if the windshield and is it cone shaped ? If so I have the same thing in the one that came with a double wall |

top mounting.
So as far as mounting is concerned, I am led to believe that EVERY blazer came with the holes for a single wall top, and if it was spec'd for a double wall, that was later added at the factory.
Were all tops white? How do the new repro rear hatches rate?

The tops came in black also, I have the percentages around here somewhere, it was very low for black, like 30% or something.

I have Both tops, the double wall came standard on my 70 cst with lights on each side , the second top is single wall and has one light in the middle. the double wall is about 35 lbs heavier than the single wall. and I don't see any insulation in the middle.

As far as tops being regional I thought I would comment that all blazers that i have seen or owned has had the single wall. Just thought i would had something to this conversation. Also when a truck came with the tinted windows option did it include tinting the removable top? And could the double/single wall tip have something to do with how you ordered your top. Like if the blazer didn't orgianlly have a top at the dealership and you wanted the top it would ship a different one? Just try to think why there are two different types of tops not counting the soft top.

I'm guessing here but I would think that anything before 1972 was only drilled for Doublewalls...since singlewalls came out in 72. They wouldn't have known to drill for singlewalls in 69-71 if they didn't offer them yet. So in 72, maybe they all were setup for both versions but not the previous year Blazers. Again, I'm guessing. If you look at my picture back on page 1 it shows a singlewall top and you can see the light on the side of the top. Singlewall tops also have a little plug in box on the drivers side interior so that the light can get power. You can see this in the picture too.

Davy,
I've seen single walls on several pre-72 models. Two (both 71's) claimed to be all original. I know these guys and I'm sure they believe it to be true. That's the first I've heard of a single wall only available in 72. Where did you find that info? Just curious, not trying to bust your balls.

70 Jimmy,
You are probably right. I thought I ready on this board that the singlewalls came out in 72. Thanks for the clarification. I wish I had a singlewall. Davy

Has anyone seen a single wall on a 1970?
The single wall top might have been a mid year 1971 addition. |

I'll chime in with my .02.
As far as bolt patterns-I've owned 5 of these things and here is the way they were set-up: 2-1972's which only had the holes for a singlewall 2-1971's both had only doublewall holes 1-1969 it only had holes for doublewall I think the holes were there only for what top was on it from the factory, there may have been some that got changed at the dealer per customer request to get lights inside therefore leaving 2 sets of holes. Rear hatches-Should all interchange. Weight-It's hard for me to believe a top weighs 450#. I've picked these double wall monsters off the ground on my back and loaded onto a trailer and I would guess they weigh maybe 250# and can't tell much difference in a singlewall. Just my opinion, but I'm only 5'11" and 190# and haven't worked out in 10 years!

My 70 is only drilled for a doublewall. That is what came on it from the factory, but I now have a singlewall. Gotta get the drill out eh?

If you kept the chrome retainers from the double wall, you could just drill the new holes in the fiberglass of the single wall top rather than putting more holes in your bed rails

I prefer the single wall that is what my Blazer came with. And out of all the the tops I have seen single walls were less warped on the roof.

Re: blazer tops 101 ???
Where did the nomenclature of "single wall" and "double wall" even come from? Neither of them is only a single layer of fiberglass. Seems to me to be just different styles. Personally I think the double wall (which I have on my 72, which is drilled for both styles of top) has better looking interior. Mine has some mounting hole ares patched on top, looks as though it used to have a roof rack or something weird like that. Was there any stock option like that for the blazer??
