so crazy idea
I had this idea I am tired of the tree on the tree. It really kills the 0-60 times on my truck could just be me who knows. But I had an idea I have a t-5 out of a mustang laying around do yall think that I could bolt that up to a 350?

Re: so crazy idea
It's not cost effective to adapt the Ford T5 to a chevrolet, but it can be done. Try and trade it for a GM V8 T5. They are a little hard to find, but out there. Search here for swapping in the 6 cylinder T5 which works great, just don't hammer on it.

Re: so crazy idea
A T5 won't hold up. Get a T56 and do it right the first time. I have a T56 in my '72 V8 Vega and I BEAT on it. No problems.

I have an S-10 5 speed in my '67 LWB and I beat on it pretty hard... 0-60 in about 5 minutes. Oh, it's an Inline 6 too.... It is fun to drive though. LockDoc

Re: so crazy idea
0-60 times and T5 should never inhabit the same sentence (even a WC T5). I really like mine, but I hammer on it about as much as LockDoc. It's a driver and I would like to keep it driving, so I don't hammer. If building a hot rod, concur with Colin, go with a T56, or find an old Doug Nash 5 sp - or an automatic (sorry, said the "a" word...)

Re: so crazy idea
If you want some fun on the cheap(assuming a 275-300 hp motor), go dig up a saginaw 4spd, with 3 rings on the input shaft. Its a wide ratio box, but with a low(3.50 1st gear). Ratios go IIRC 3.5/2.5/ 1.7/ 1. There is a long stretch tween 3rd & 4th, but the truck is rolling hard by then! the box will take some guff, but I would not reccomend slicks or drag race useage. I ran one 25000 miles behind a 300 hp 327, & drove the truck like I stole it....finally fubared it behind a 355 in my old Longhorn(6500 rpm shift in 3rd gear, loud peddle to the metal) For fun spirited street driving, I bet it will hold up better than the T-5....no OD tho. crazyL

Re: so crazy idea
Tell me about it....its time to put a 1-2 slider & a # 2 sync ring in my Richmond(probably 4-500 in parts). No biggie, I can twist low 500 rpms tighter, & smack her into 3rd gear That 383 has enough tork to handle the gap crazyL

Re: so crazy idea
t5 out of the mustang isn't that bad. They beat on them like stolen cars all day long. There is a bellhousing that will bolt it all together. Comes from an early 80's amc spirit (really!) 4cyl 5 speed. The 4 cyl. is the old iron duke from the monza , t5 bolts to it.
