80 dual Vbelt alt pulley on my Buick V8

80 dual Vbelt alt pulley on my Buick V8

If I put on two belts like it had stock, it squeals all the time, if I just have on one belt, it will only squeal on take off for a sec or two.

Both annoying

All looks linned up proper, tight as can be, tired of the noise peroid;
and having to turn off say like the heater fan before I take off at night with lights on so it does make noise.

Anyone ever run into this???

Re: 80 dual Vbelt alt pulley on my Buick V8

I've run into that when the belts I was using were mismatched.

By "mismatched" I don't mean they were different sizes; what I mean is that they were from different batches, and therefore slightly different.

If you look on the outside surface of your belts, you'll find the part number / size code (such as 13A540), plus there will be another number that is like a date code or batch code.

When you buy 2 new belts, try to get them from the same batch. That will help ensure that they are made of almost exactly the same rubber composition and length.

When they make V-belts, they don't make them just 1/2" wide -- they're actually a couple of feet across, and then they are "sliced" into 1/2" width sections. So, if the batch code is the same, then both belts would come from the same large, original belt.

Hope that helps.

Ill have to try that, Im tired of feeling those invisible eyes judging my car maintenance when I forget to shut off an accessories before a stop at night to lower power demand and it squeals like a lose or crappy belt is installed.

The mystery is solved, some reason is they sell two belts for it, one is just 1in longer.

easily mixed up I bet.

Made sure with their belt measure tool I got two alike, fingers crossed it works out.
