Under column Flash Lights

I was parusing the 'bey today and came across some under column flashlight and holders. I bought a flashlight (40-60) all metal old style. And was wanted to know if the "column" holders work ok? Anyone have them? see below

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flashlight-H...sories&vxp=mtr

Does the diameter of the clamp section fit our columns. I also found an underdash bracket that would work too.

Re: Under column Flash Lights

We had them in our 48 and 52 Olds family cars when I was a kid. They had a strong spring retention and never dropped a flashlight. I'm not sure how well they would work with a Maglite pointed at the floor, the newer design being so much heavier than the old tin versions common in the 1950's & 60's.

Re: Under column Flash Lights

ya i have one but it is a reproduction ..It will not fit by it self you have to make a bracket to clamp onto the column or modify the one it comes with since the clamp is too small to fit the diameter of the truck column.......If you found a NOS(original) they have a diffrent style strap like a metal plumbing strap almost they might fit i asked this seller and he said "According to the box, it fits columns from 1-1/2" to 3" but i didnt buy it cause i already had a repop.......like this link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/250930050971...S:1123&vxp=mtr

hopefully that link worked??

If you cant find a NOS one you might be able to do something like i did and use a big hose clamp to fasten it to the column....i used the hose clamp band that the tach came with and made a cut in the flashlight holder so the band holds it like this:

if you cant see that picture it is also posted in my build thread :

Re: Under column Flash Lights

and the reproduction flashlight is very cheaply made really thin metal not like the heavier gauge ones from the 50's and 60's they are for mainly show and not really functional ,only real weight comes from the batterys the first time i put batterys in mine and turned it on it blew the bulb i had to buy a better quality bulb to get mine to work...As far as holding the light i had to bend the roller tabs in a little but it holds it just fine I dont think it would hold a maglight..

Re: Under column Flash Lights

I'm thinking this one that can be screwed directly under the lower lip of the dash.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flashlight-H...item519d42e2a3

I was able to get the exact type of flash light you have, but have a few opions on mounting. The bracket about is designed for a handlebar of a bike. (the bracket is not shown) SO it will mount right under the lip no problem.
