Which wheels on my bagged '69 step
I'm gonna be laying this thing out with Porterbuilt front and rear. Boxes in the garage. I did a quick P-chop of the drop.
Which wheels do you think? The steelies are on there now. The TT II's are 18/20" from my previous truck, shown polished and with the possible painted centers to simulate their cast version. |

Thanks. I haven't installed the dropmember stuff yet. Totally stock right now. So you think steelies?

Re: Which wheels on my bagged '69 step
Either steelies or painted centers...for my tastes, I'd keep both and swap them from time to time.

Re: Which wheels on my bagged '69 step
Nice. I was even thinking 20/22", but I've gotta choose between what I've already got. I'm running out of money what with all the stock I've purchased in things that say "PB" on them! And I haven't even gotten it all installed yet. I can't wait!

Re: Which wheels on my bagged '69 step
I thought of that. But the Steelies are 6 lug and the Torque Thrusts 5. Plus, I will have to narrow the rear and cut the bedsides out to clear the wheels if I go TT II. Couldn't swap the steelies out (even if I bought some 5 lug) without them being way too far in and goofy looking on the narrowed rear.

I like the steelies but with no whitewalls. To me, whitewalls don't look right on these trucks.

Re: Which wheels on my bagged '69 step
The steelies look good, but not as good as either of the TTII's! The polished looks good with the green paint, imho.

Re: Which wheels on my bagged '69 step
Cast Centers get my vote, be careful on your rear wheels/tires (height) you are limited on the stepsides when you go that low.

The TTII's have 295/40's on them, at 29.29" tall, with 5.25" of backspace. Nate did tell me I won't be able to lay out because of interference from the step fenders. Were you already hitting the inners on the Stella Mae truck even with the c-notch? I know rustSpot is running an s-10 rear. I have no problem shortening the rear and cutting the bed sides for clearance--all in the name of cool factor, of course!! What do you think as far as shortening the rear? How much? I was concerned about pulling it in too much and interfering with the bags as the bridge assembly has them mounted outside, or not coming in enough after it's done and cursing myself. Thanks! Jim |

Pic #2 looks good, but I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Re: Which wheels on my bagged '69 step
I have the same question - I have a 12-bolt rear now on my 72. From time to time, I will want to change up from 15x7 steelies to 20s all the way around...I want to stagger them in width only (20x8 front, 20x10 or so rear). I was not sure if backspacing would be enough to get it to lay out, as I lay out now on the steelies, or do I need to shorten the rear end to 50" and cut into the step bed....
This is important, as I am potentially going to add power to this truck (350/TH400 is in it now, might replace with a BBC).

Re: Which wheels on my bagged '69 step
Raul's truck is ridiculous man. 285/35/22 5" BS 9" wheel. I'm not sure if he has the early rear end or later .. I think his truck is a 71.
Slight trimming on the lip but it's down there pretty good. This one and Stella are two of my all time favorite steppers. I went with 20's just for a little more sidewall but these trucks are killer man. I think Keith has 265/40/22 (?) with the early rear end. I am running 20x8.5 with 4.75" BS 255/45/20. Early housing. I don't have a picture at this moment but I'll post one asap.
