I would use marine grade spar varnish or spar urethane. I know the urethane comes with UV protection and resists moisture and temperature changes. One important point. Before sealing up the wood make sure that it is dry, dry, dry. Any moisture trapped inside could cause problems later on by rotting from the inside out. This stuff is available at most hardware stores.

I am at this stage also, and i was wonering how well it would work if i put a clear coat on that you would normally use on paint jobs and whatnot. Is this a good or bad idea.

I haven't done a wood bed but I know you need to finish the top and bottom. I would assume you also want to finish the sides too.,

Anyone remember when Stacy David started Copperhead, he finished an oak bed kit? It wasn't for his truck, but he showed how to do it. I can't find the show number, or the products he used.
