tranny questions

I have 84 gmc 3/4 ton with a 4 speed that i want to switch over to a 700r trans. Going to use an aftermarket (b/m) shifter. What else needed besides automatic trans crossmember, radiator w/ cooler hookups? is there a drivshaft that will work without having to have one made? (didn't know if 84 trucks had 700r's in them.)

Re: tranny questions

Im pretty sure the 700r, TH350 and the Muncie/Saginaw 4 speeds had the same overall length. Your existing driveshaft should be fine.

Re: tranny questions

THM 350's and Saginaw 3 speeds are the same overall length. The rest are different.
I'm assuming being a 3/4 ton you have a SM465 4 speed. If you have a 2 piece drive shaft you should be able to go to the junk yard and find the front half of one that came with a 700R4 and swap that. 84's were optioned with the 700 so you should be ok. I had swapped out my 700 with a 400 while I was building it so that I could still drive her and did swap just the front section of the shaft. Piece of cake.........
