Good day went bad

Was hauling some stuff to the dump Thursday and on the second run my truck started running bad.Had a bad spark knock and a miss.So babied it bad home started check things out.Went to a Friends house on Friday so we could figure whats up with my truck.Well the bad part is we figured it was a blown head gasket. So Sat.me and the kids dove in.So it torn apart.Started checking the head and come to find out it is Cracked by the intake valve.I said dang could it get any worse. So I can a friend to see if he had a set of heads. So I went over to his house pulled a set of heads off another motor.Went home and started cleaning.Sunday started lapping the valve and was half wy threw the first head and guess what 2 cracked in the exhaust area of the head.I said do what give me a break.two set of heads and both has cracks in them.My friend didnt have any other heads and been call other friend to find another set.And know it is Tuesday and still no heads. So the point is it can get alot worse.I worse part is that the only vechiel we have.Anyone close by have a good set of heads?Sorry for the rant.

Man, if you didn't have bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all..

I hope you can come up with a good set of heads. I wouldn't think it would be hard to find a set but I guess it depends on your area. I wish you good luck on the next set.

Re: Good day went bad

I went through 6 sets to find a OK set of heads for my 74. Set on the engine cracked, the one of set came off that engine about 5 years ago, the pair that came off a parts engine were cracked (also had a shreaded thrust surface on the crank). The machine shop let me search through his pile-o-heads and after 4 more sets I found a pair that are useable (one has been repairs for a crack and a seat replaced). Quite a few of the heads I looked through were early heavy castings (before 1977), I only needed a matching set of big chamber 1.94 350 heads. I was beinging to thinking the Small Block Chevy Gods were out to get me.

Hey tanman722001 i have a set of 993 casting but they are bare,i have a set of stainless valves for them also,i was going to use them on my motor & came across a set 041 heads & spend $600.00 to rebuild them. They are dated E-15-3 & they came off of a 73 Monte Carlo.Just let me know if you want to see them,i'm 30 min. away from Mocksville.
