Re: looking for DANA 70 POWER LOCK
you might want to see if your 14 bolt has a detroit locker in it and what gear ratio it has as these bring big bucks now days.
regards bob

Re: looking for DANA 70 POWER LOCK
no problem. you count the number of teeth on the ring and pinion gear to get ratio and as far as a locker its inside the carrier and you cant see it without pulling & dissasembling it unles you can drive the truck , then just do a little burnout and see if just 1 tire pulls or 2.

I wish I could drive it, truck is stripped down to a rolling chassis. I can pull the covers off of both the front and rear though....

Re: looking for DANA 70 POWER LOCK
There isnt a cover on the front ! Just the back. Theres also probably a tag on the back cover bolt that will tell you spec's also on glove box dorr inside.

Re: looking for DANA 70 POWER LOCK
sure looks to me like there is a cover bolted on the rear and the front that could be taken off after the drive line is removed.... maybe I am wrong.
No reference to the rear axle on the glove box I checked. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: looking for DANA 70 POWER LOCK
Dana 70s were 73-up Big Dooley rears. You'd do better looking in the right parts board. No '72 or earlier GM trucks used the Dana 70.

Re: looking for DANA 70 POWER LOCK
Wrong ! D70's was late 1950's and up and most was srw in 1 tons. The p/l i need is late 50's to 1973 "only" but thanks for your comments. I,ve dealt with 60's & 70's for almost 40 yrs.

Re: looking for DANA 70 POWER LOCK
Sorry,I didn't mean to hurt you feelings. I was trying to help. It sounds like we have dealt with these trucks for the same amount of time. I know the Dana 70 existed in other makes, but GM had their own rear and only began using Dana 60s in some 3/4t trucks 65-72. Then, beginning in '73 they started using the Dana 70 in dual rear pickups. In the 46-72 GM parts catalog there are no listings for any parts for Dana rears until '65 and only on C20,which would not be a Dana 70. They show no parts listings for any 30 series truck w/Dana. That, and in 40 years or more I have never seen a Dana 70 in any GM truck prior to '73. I know the one you're looking for,the early Dana 70 (no suffix) that was used late-50s into '71 when the Dana 70B replaced it. Good luck on your search.

Re: looking for DANA 70 POWER LOCK
Alot of rears got transpalnted especially when the early 14 bolt got hard to get parts for. I know what came in 67-72 trucks. Thats irrelivent. But unless you have or know who has what i,am looking for you shouldnt have posted. And you didnt hurt my feelins.

Re: looking for DANA 70 POWER LOCK
That's just it,I thought I knew someone who would have what you need. That's what drew me to your thread. It's important to know what the rear came out of,though. This is a 67-72 GM Truck parts message board and I never knew this rear to come in one and I said what I said because I know a lot but never figure I know it all. I did some checking and now know it did in fact not come in these trucks and there was only one no suffix Dana 70 w/.50 offset, which my friend does have parts for. I made a suggestion that there may be a better area to post your WTB since no truck within this range ever used that rear. I now know this rear was never used in any 73-up GM Dooleys, either. Many people offer unsolicited advise on this site,as that's what this site is about...knowledge as much as or more than just a marketplace. I don't need to be told where to post and when. And,I won't tell you either. It's not my place to tell you there is a WTB and misc. sale area here that would be the appropriate area to post your needs, which is why I didn't. I'll leave you to your search and, again, good luck.
