A few new changes lately, I wired up the 4-pin trailer hitch plug mounted next to the license plate on the rear bumper, cleaned up the old mirror mount holes in the door with chrome metal plugs, got a new chrome receiver hitch cover, and replaced the plastic black caps on my rally wheels with some really clean 90's chrome caps (required special order double-threaded lug nuts to mount).

More updates... installed some new 'heavy-duty' springs to correct the front-end sag (original 35+ year old coil springs) and stiffen up the rear-end for towing, which ended up lifting the truck almost 2" due to the extra coil in front and extra leaf in back.
Also dropped the rear euro tail lights in favor of some brand-new stock tail lights. |

Update 8/3/2012:
I6 250 head cracked as of 6/10/2012... intake/exhaust/head were all integrated, replacements were cost-prohibitive and were not worth it... rebuilding this engine did not make sense due to rarity and cost. Instead I decided to drop in a slightly used (8,000mi on the clock) GM Goodwrench Stage 1 Crate V8 350 (5.7L), with new exhaust and new clutch kit. Engine was purchased by another person and used on a '78 4x4 Silverado for about 6 months until the transmission died, owner decided to sell the engine at a $600 loss to me (compared to new price) and parted out the entire truck instead of replacing/rebuilding the transmission and rear-end. List of new parts: GM Goodwrench Stage 1 V8 350 (5.7L, 4-bolt main) Edelbrock 1406 600CFM Carburetor Edelbrock Performer Intake Hooker Competition Long-tube Oval-port Headers (2.5" outlet) Dual Magnaflow Exhaust (2.5" all the way through, mandrel-bent) New Heavy-Duty Clutch Kit GM 3-core Radiator GM HEI Distributor Omni-Spark Wires AC/Delco Spark Plugs New Fuel Filter New Fuel Pump Mr. Gasket Chrome Differential Cover Set of (4) Firestone Transforce A/T 235/75R15 tires Engine is dropped in and running like brand-new, tires break easily in first and second gear Engine gets about 18MPG freeway with 4-speed manual transmission and 4.10 gears. Complete picture timeline below: NOTE: Headers shown in early pictures are Flowmasters that did not fit my 4x2 frame, they have since been replaced by Hooker long tubes. NOTE 2: Engine was matte black when purchased, I painted the engine Chevy orange with gloss black accessories before dropping into the truck.
