gauge cluster problem

My uncle just bought a 79 K10 and I think he might have a ground problem but I havent looked at it yet. He says his gauges Oil, temp ect. the needles seem to be moving backwards I'm guessing there spinning upside down and he said when he turns on the one turnsignal his highbeam light flashes and when he put the other turnsignal on the other turnsignal flashes and his gas gauge is not working. I gave him an extra ribbon circut for the back of the cluster and it did the same thing. I thought he might have a ground problem but wasnt sure if they changed plugs on the cluster and someone did a swap before they sold it or if anyone had a problem like this.....thanks

Re: gauge cluster problem

It sounds like someone re-pinned the cluster plug and screwed it up.

Re: gauge cluster problem

Thanks Hatzie it looks like in 82 the big change was there was less grounds and a couple little things like fuel......so if his wiring is right someone might have switched clusters maybe to show lower miles or other one was messed up.....if the wiring change i dont think they changed the gauge just the wire ribbon to the circuts

Re: gauge cluster problem

i found a spot behind the cluster where the grounds go to one
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=421767&page=2
post 194 you can see the spot about a foot back from the cluster
and I repinned mine from idiots to gauges if you read it a bit more
and make sure it plugs in good, cause it moving around can make issues

Re: gauge cluster problem

ok my uncle took his dash apart and I went over today to look at it and there was only one wire in the right spot, I went thru the wires by color and checked them against the diagram from above and almost all of the wires where there. I did have two brown wires a yellow and a odd ball pink that did not match the other pink ign. wires...and did not have the blue wire for the oil, looked under the hood and there was a brown wire to the oil sending unit. did not have power to the yellow or pink but didnt check if they might have been a ground for something else thou, had power at the one brown at acc and at on postion and the other brown was just hot when in on postion.......but did get gas, temp, turn signals working he was missing one of the clips for the volt meter and didnt get to check any light had to go to work, but will try some more tomorrow just thought I would chime back in with progress
