Got Grilled, buyers beware

Purchased what was supposed to be a NOS grille from ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/360434101008...84.m1439.l2649

Received with many small blemishes and a nasty crack in the metal around the passenger side headlight. The support on the plastic insert was broken in half, not just cracked like mentioned in the listing. The black lettering was not painted very good either.

I found out this grille was offered on this site just before it came out on ebay. Not sure the relation to these two. Just wanted others to be aware of the true condition of the grille.

I took close up pictures of the grille and you can see these areas. You can actually see the trouble spots in the ebay and forum pictures once you know where to look. I had to file a dispute to get a full refund. I still lost out on the return shipping as ebay lead me to believe I would get that back, but I was wrong. Not truly a "Buyers Protection" program.

Almost looks like it was polished up (?). Glad you got a resolution even though you lost the shipping. Could have been worse.

If it was NOS it would've had black headlight bezels.
Black flag right there.

No black flag there... these grills did not come with the headlight bezels, inner plastic or the outer supports, those we all purchased seperately. the owner may have chose just 71/72 bezels instead.

I totally agree with Tim.
Guys I think we have way too high of expectations on parts just because they are NOS.. Over the years I have owned a good number of that exact grill in NOS and the one in question actually is a nice one!!

Remember they stamped thousands of these and GM's quality control back that was not good. I know of a vendor who purchased a good number of these when they were still available from GM and he had to return most of them as they were horrible!!

Please keep in mind these are trucks and were originally intended for utilitarian use and nothing more.

Not true, the black painted metal ones were discoed by GM a long time ago, the 71/72 bright anodized aluminum 705's & 706's were the only new GM replacment/supersession parts available. Mel

Re: Got Grilled, buyers beware

I have many NOS parts that have blemishes. It's possible, and probably is a NOS grill. They have flaws, shelf wear scuffs and scratches from handling. In fact I have this exact vintage and design grill. It does have a few flaws but I would rather have it than an aftermarket one. It's the centerpiece of the 69-70 truck.

I love NOS part just because they just don't make them anymore. I have learned over the last few years that just because they are original GM parts that doesn't make them mint. If this grill was misrepresented you should have gotten a refund for shipping too. Ebay/paypal suck!
BTW, you would have gotten a great deal on that grill if it was mint as described
