Power Steering box swap

Hello all, I need some info on swapping a power steering box. I have a 1969 short bed. Id like to upgrade the steering box to a newer 98+ steering box. has anyone done this? Can it be done?, and if so How? Im not worried about my pump as I am already running a newer GM Type 2 pump w/ remote reservoir. I know I will have to change the lines agin to accomadate new Metric fittings, but will a newer box phisically bolt up? if not a truck box, maybe a newer Camaro or F Body?

Im pretty sure from 88-98 and 99+ all the GM truck power steering gear boxes are mounted on the inside of the frame instead of on the outside of the frame like 1987 and older. That may take a lot of work to make it fit. I am using one from an 83 GMC truck.

Anyone else tried something different maybe??

did yours bolt in easily enough or were there alot of modifications required?

Get a box from a truck '77-'87 and it will bolt right up. You will have to swap your Pitman arm over from the existing box to the new box. This will give you variable assist steering which will bring your steering feel into this century. HUGE difference. I have heard a lot of people, including myself, say that they wish that this would have been the first upgrade they would have made.

Honestly I haven't bolted mine up yet, my truck is in a million pieces. From research on here and measuring every possible way it is a straight bolt on deal. Keep your pitman arm though like Bhyatt said unless you swap in a complete 73-87 front susp xmember. It is a super upgrade on steering for us junkyard guys! Have you started a build thread on here yet? we would like to see pics!! Later
