Wait until you get to cleaning out the heater box.Snakes, wasps, mice, along with the scorpions and spiders are normal, not the exception.

Re: Never know what you will find
Weren't you southern poisonous bug killing guys just making fun of us northern guys for storing our stuff for a few months while we watch a little puck and do a little ice fishing?
I'll take a few months off from my classic over some bug killing me any day! BTW, now that the pumpkin chuckers are finally done we can get on to watching the real final four which is happening in Tampa this fine weekend.

Re: Never know what you will find
Spiders over about the size of a dime give me the heebee jeebees! And yes, Vintage Windmills, smaller scorpions usually hurt worse than the big guys. I'm no scorpion expert, so I don't know what kind that is, but in AZ we have the Arizona Bark Scorpion which can kill you. And they're only like 3 inches long!

Re: Never know what you will find
When I was pulling mine back home from storage the other nite saw a mouse go bouncing off the trailer. Just discovered today they were living in front part of hood.
Best part was when I fired it up and blew out another ones home from exhaust. Insulation bits went flying everywhere along with a dead mouse!

Re: Never know what you will find
I had wasp nests in the bed rails when I brought mine home; drove her about 40 miles home and didn't find them for about a week. Just glad they didn't nest up in my garage.

Had a wasps nest behind the tailgate handle. Good thing I saw one flying out before I stuck my hand in there.

Re: Never know what you will find
M buddy parts out 65 and 67 Impalas (those are his addictions). Even in the northeast, he will not start parting a car until he has put an insect bomb off in it and, in most cases, has sat outside during one of our winters. He has discovered many uninvited guests over the years and is perhaps now overly cautious.

Re: Never know what you will find
I have a friend in that lives in Gilbert AZ. He is invaded with Scorpions! We grab a beer and a blacklight and head for the backyard. After you see a hundred or so of the little glowing buggers, it gets a little creepy. My skin crawls for hours after that.
I got stung years ago by a scorpion, and it hurts... ALOT! Also have been stung by one of these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarantula_hawk , and let me tell you, it was the most painful 3 hours of my life! Followed by many hours of numbness. It was in my shoe, and it hit me 3 times before I could get the shoe off. I screamed like a horror movie chick! |

Re: Never know what you will find
Just another reason for me not to move to a warmer climate! We are starting to see some things like that up here in the summer, they catch rides on the oilfield ewuipment and vehicles on their way up from down south. Unless they can get inside the only live a few months!

Re: Never know what you will find
A few weeks ago I found a shed snake skin inside a rear brake drum. Couldn't have been a very big snake but I'm still glad it was long gone.

Re: Never know what you will find
i am starting to love my altitude. we have some crazy tarantula populations. they stay pretty hidden most of the time but when they come out to breed... holy cow. i run across them in my back yard and out cutting firewood once and i while. i almost never see snakes no scorpions and i have never seen a wasp thingy that size. WTF. i would go apesh*t crazy with a can of brake cleaner if i ever did. generally bugs dont bother me but if it can sting me then carry me off, ill fight to the death.

Re: Never know what you will find
I heard what I thought was someone stealing my radio one night and went to relieve the fella of his consciousness, when I saw the possum under the battery tray and all the babies. Had take out the marker light to scare her out. Also a cat I called "dirty girl" had not one but two litters under the rocker panel of the truck. (72 Blazer). It,s my own personal nursery.
