The history of my truck

It started in 1974 when this truck was bought in Huntington Beach, Ca. In 1979 My mom remarried and I got a stepdad. We went every where in the truck. One day he picked me up from school and we went on a joy ride. He smoked the tires and we took off fast. From that day, I said someday I want this truck. He just smiled. I was 7 at the time. We went to the river towing a matching 18 foot jet boat many times. We also went to the desert with offroad toys countless times. I remember when I watched him build a carport off his barn at our desert house hauling all the supplies in that truck too. The truck went thru a few different set of wheels and a couple paint jobs over the years but always ran great. At 16 he taught me how to drive in it. All in all I have countless memories in this simple truck with my family. In 2001 just before my stepdad, Barney, passed away he said I want you to have the truck. Now after a bitter divorce, Iam finally getting all the parts together to rebuild my truck. A big block and 400 trans will find its way in the truck very soon along with all new suspension. These are some old pics of how it used to look. The last pic is how it is now, waiting its turn for a rebuid. When its my time to go, my son will get it next.

i practcally grew up in my dads old 79 crew cab work truck. we have talked about tossing a short stepside bed on it and fixing it up a little to give it a new life. my mom just wants to scrap it, dont worry, i wont let that happen

i wish i knew the history of my truck. all i know is what the numbers told me, is was a 250 with 3 on the tree and now it has a 350 from 71 and a th350

My son is 4 and I have him help me on the dually. I pretty much do something to it every week. Last night he was holding the light to change the 2 in-line filters I have under the bed by the tanks. Reading this, I truly hope his memories of the "Dually" breed love and stories just like yours.

Great story!
Not to do any hijacking but reminded me of my 78.... My dad's brother factory ordered and picked it up in Michigan to bring back to Massachusett's. We then all moved out to CA in 83 and Dad bought it from his brother in 86. We did a 8700mi crosscountry trip in it in 87 and have done countless trips to the desert, sierras, etc. Dad taught me to drive in it and I started dropping him off at the Ford dlr he wrenched at when I was 16 and taking it to school. He almost traded it in 5 or 6 years back. Dlr offered him $1k, I coughed up $501 and said "I own 51%, what do you say pops?" Luckily, he agreed we should keep it. Now she sits in the driveway with a non-op, needy of some rust repair and another paint job (again) but still runs great! 256,000 original miles on the 'ol 250 six cyl. 3 on the tree wore out again and is back on the floor. I'll never get rid of it..... Now if I can just get Dad motivated to restore it again...
