4L80/208....... again

Greetings all! I'm new here and I hate to beat the proverbial "dead horse" but i cant seem to access the archives.... User error im sure. I have an 87 3/4 ton (1 ton, full fender dually, 4x4, and recent Blazer graft) i have a doner 92 Winnebago 454/4l80 (16,700 miles!) and the tbi454 is already in the truck. If i understand correctly, this tranny has the 32 spline output so i just have to shorten the shaft, plug the oil port in the tail shaft, and locate a 4l80/241 adapter. Speed sensor is not in the TC so it will shift correcly in 2hi/4hi. I also have the harness and computer from the 92. Anybody done one that can shed some light. Is it that easy?!? Scratching my head....

Have you tried in the 4x4 part of the forum?Your best bet is talk to http://www.advanceadapters.com/ but if your going to spend the money for the adapter i would get a np205.

Thanks! They dont make an adapter apparently due to the factory making one.... I was hoping to find someone who had actually tackled this and had hands on knowledge. Thanks! I love this forum

if you're gonna run a 241/208, you need to change to the shorter output shaft, and get the 241 adapter. if you're gonna run a 205, you can use the stock 2wd output shaft, and get the factory 205 adapter, and a round pattern 205 I believe. you can't just cut the shaft off shorter for the 241/208 setup. not enough splines.

Is it difficult/costly to change the shaft?

Re: 4L80/208....... again

Changing the output shaft,,,,you'll have to completely dissassemble the transmission to a bare case to access the output shaft and replace it. Basically it's the first thing to go in, and the last thing to come out.

How expensive really depends on whether you can do it yourself or know someone who can.

Easier (like V30 mentioned) to adapt a 205 and use the existing output shaft, but then you have to find a 205 32 spline transfer case, those aren't falling out of trees either, then you have to worry what kind of usable shape it's in too.

Either way you go sounds like money....

th400 is 32 spline too so any 1 ton or 3/4 ton should have the 205 32 spline

Yep, just seems the 27 spline (TH350) are more common and easier to find.

You're in Kentucky, I can't speak for Arkansas where the original poster is, but here as well as Ohio where I'm originally from (which is close enough to Kentucky ) Turbo 400 4x4 trucks were few and far between even several years ago. TH 400's have been out of regular production for many years now.

I know when those 32 spline 205's show up forsale around here, they are twice the price of a 27/205.
Popular for the hard core off roaders around here to use as a doubler with a 400 turbo in front for a bullet proof setup.
