3 speed to 4 speed od switch few ?ss
ok i have finally saved up a little money and am thinking about putting the 4 speed od MY6 trans from the 80s chevy trucks in my 69 in hopes for better gas mileage. from what i have heard its a direct bolt up from my old 3 speed. my questions are what else will i need to make this swap a sucess. i need to get the shifter and linkage with the trans right? what about driveshafts will i need a different one? i hope i can find one around for a decent price.

The main thing is to get a complete unit; shifter, rods and transmission. Correct bell housing if you need it.
Here are two articles and one link to a tranny without the shifter.... http://www.classicjunkyard.com/new_process_a833.htm http://www.customclassictrucks.com/t...n/viewall.html http://raleigh.craigslist.org/pts/2906324833.html

I believe the OD my6 is the same length as a Turbo 350; short 6" version. If that's what you are replacincing then it should bolt right up. Double check all this of course. I replaced an SM420 so it required a longer drive shaft and a different input shaft.
