Re: 1969 Short Wide
LOL I figured it was worth a try Mike. Good idea getting a rust free cab next time, I should have done the same thing, my truck would be done right now.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Great work! I much rather do mechanical work as well. But i'm too poor to pay a body man and I'll prolly beat the body man done any way. So I attempt to do my own just like you. Keep at it!

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Been a busy last week or so. I have been cracking on this cab. I know you guys are probably tired of looking at the pictures of it, I know I'm tired of it myself.
Pictures: Got the interior stripped to bare metal Epoxy primered the whole inside Coated the floor with Por-15 |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
After that I flipped the cab up on the back (hopefully the last time).
Then I coated it with Raptor urethane bed liner made by Upol. I mixed in the micro spheres to create a thermal barrier. At least that is what I hoped to do. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you buy some reducer or thinner for the Raptor. It get's too thick which makes it not shoot very good, kinda comes out in globs. The kit comes with a gun to shoot it. I was able to put one coat on the whole bottom with the mix, then used a new bottle to coat it with a second coat. It turned out pretty good overall. I keep telling myself, only guys like me are gonna crawl under there and look at the bottom of the cab Raptor Bedliner insulating spheres LINK Got the doors stripped while I was between coats. Laid the high build primer. Time to start blocking.

I'm going to try to get the doors knocked out and mounted before I shoot the outside of the cab but I want to shoot the inside soon. Just a reward for all the hours spent on this thing. |

Looking good Mike. I'm sure that was fun sanding the inside of your cab. That's a task I'm not looking forward to myself.

No not fun at all, I actually had to do it in sections. Hit the roof with the DA for a few hours, then waited until the next day to finish it with a wire wheel in the areas the DA wouldn't reach. All together about 6 hours just stripping the inside. Probably should have blasted it all but that was super slow too with my compressor. I put it off as long as I could. I think if you can lay it down or rotate your cab it would be much easier. I'm thinking a rotisserie is where it's at. Thanks Kurt. Quote:
