heavy duty factory rear coils
Anyone know the specifics of the rating / payload differences of the regular factory rear coil springs and what Chevrolet installed as a "Heavy Duty" rear coil spring in 1971?

If it's a 1/2 ton, they use a 3/4 ton spring. Problem is I did the front end on mine a did a 3/4 ton spring, I also had 3/4 ton springs on the rear. The damm thing has a harsh ride to it. I thought it would just be a solid feel but it's not unless you load the bed down with about 300 lbs.

I was simply curious, since my build sheet says that mine came with Heavy Duty springs, front and rear. It also had helper leafs in the rear when I bought it. I removed those quickly.
I swapped out the stcok coils (rear) for a set of Eibachs. I was thinking about selling my stock rear coils, but now I am thinking I'd better keep them! They could come in handy should I ever want to carry a serious load or pull something. |
