"Sid Vicious" aka "yeller" My 79 chevy

I bought this truck about a year ago from a friend for $2,000, is was smoking bad out the passenger side exhaust when I bought it, that turned out to be the vacuum modulator,

the truck was mainly stock, it had a low compression, mid 70's emission 350, that was installed by someone prior to my friend getting it,

this is how it looked when I got it
since then I had a blowout doing 70mph down the hwy, it put a nice dent in the drivers side door and took some trim and my emblem with it

then about a month ago my coil went out, thought it might the whole dist so in the process of changing it out, I had a case of "well since I'm here's" I ended up doing this to it

added a single plan strip dominator intake, a set of 305 heads with 1.94/1.5 valves, unshrouded for 2.02's, milled and acid ported, with stainless steel valves

added a cam, a Lunati 40119 solid lifter cam, .
Duration @ .050": 256°-268°, Lift: .550"-.571", Lobe Separation: 106°
which was more than I planned but a Buddy had it laying around and told me to take it,

also had a set of scorpion 1.5 roller rockers that I added

altogether it has 10.5-1 compression (58cc heads plus -13cc to -18cc dished
pistons
estimated hp 450 with 400 tq

planning on installing a 2500 stall, and 3.73 gears

and I have changed the grill, and removed the push bars from the bumper

Re: "Sid Vicious" aka "yeller" My 79 chevy

the plan for the weekend is to install the headers, get it to move more air out, I figure 2.5" exhaust, long tube headers, and a pair of thrush welded mufflers should do the trick, plus I have been looking around for a Ford 9inch rear end, to make gear changes easier

got the headers on, bummed tho I bought them used and was told they cam off a truck, only to find out they came off a car, but a little creativity will fix that,

Re: "Sid Vicious" aka "yeller" My 79 chevy

well it has been awhile, and real life has gotten in the way of my truck time,

the car headers didn't quit work all that well bought new ones

sid Vicious was also a member of "the sex pistols"

here is what I have done, redid the cam to something more streetable, comp 268, added some Bowtie heads and intake,

the short block was all sock, so it didn't take anytime to discover it's weakness, which was it spinning a rod bearing,

so the new plan is to use the new top end, on a new bottom end, which should hold up,
forged steel crank, lunati rods, and Mahle forged dome pistons, bored .060 over,

planning a 3/4 drop, some suspension work to make her handle better, new paint and a new attitude, be it bad or what,

Re: "Sid Vicious" aka "yeller" My 79 chevy

so I will go into a little more detail on the new engine build

350 bored .060 over
mahle dome forged pistons with low friction rings
Lunati 6" connecting rods
forged steel crank lightened and balanced
Bowtie phase II heads
Bowtie dual plane intake
268 comp cam
Scorpion 1.5 roller rockers
Demon carb 650 cfm
MSD hei dist

so with all this it should be a solid runner, with good street manners and to be able to pass a car or 2 on the road, and get moderate gas mileage
about 12-1 compression so I will need to upgrade the starter, and run 91+ octane
I know the the cam is on the small side, but is close to the largest cam before I need to change gearing and stall,
after the last 2 attempts of building a motor for my truck, first try resulting in over cammed and valve float, and needing to change stall speed and rear gears,
2nd attempt closer to what I was wanting, ran good had good power lacked compression and resulted in showing what an old worn bottom end does when you push it to hard,
so with my 3rd attempt, alot more thought, more planning and over kill in ways but should do what I want it to, have decent power and still be mild enough to be my DD
