Anyone install a sunroof
Thinking about putting a sunroof in my 85. Anyone have any problems or regrets with their sunroof.

Re: Anyone install a sunroof
I don't think you could even find a body shop/glass repair that will do an aftermarket install these days. They had to pay for too many new roofs due to leakage - now they won't touch them anymore.

Re: Anyone install a sunroof
Noooooooooooooo! I've never met anyone who had success after installing an aftermarket sunroof. If it didn't come from the factory, there must be a good reason for it.

Re: Anyone install a sunroof
I sure as heck wouldnt do it because of the leakage issue it detracts from the value of the truck.. the older it gets the more valuable it gets to a collector.. the less rust the better...sunroofs make for good future parts trucks

Re: Anyone install a sunroof
It's also nearly impossible to find a sunroof with the right curvature.

Re: Anyone install a sunroof
I put one in to replace an old two piece sunrood that was probably almost as old as my truck. I went a little bigger with the new one and it came out good. No more leaks, that old leaky one was shot and the company wasn't in business anymore so i couldn't get replacement seals. Im gonna be doing a cab swap now thanks to an accident and im on the fence about putting the sunroof in the next cab. It is kinda nice to have now that i have a good non leaky one

Re: Anyone install a sunroof
but i did put one in the 81 lemans ,it didn't leak
I used a black roof tar caulking tube stuff funny thing it made the even the 5% tint useless, the inside(glass of sunroof) had to be covered with black mactac to keep out the sunlight/heat

Re: Anyone install a sunroof
I wouldn't put one in if it were me. I love factory sunroofs in vehicles that came with them but I just couldn't bring myself to cut a hole in my truck. If you decide you want to do it. I have a NOS one that should work with the curve of your roof.

Re: Anyone install a sunroof
I'd have to agree with the NO's. Sunroof's are out, and unlike many other 25+ year old trends, they are not coming back. Even the best factory ones squeak, rattle, and leak. If you want to cut up the roof you'd be better off with one of those tacky 80's soft top conversions!
