Question about fender????

Need your help. We arent sure if this is a Chevy or GMC fender. We are thinking Chevy but want more opinions. Had a Custom Camper 20 emblem at one time. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Fred.

Re: Question about fender????

You see how the fender has a lip were the grill trim will line up. Chevy has those where as gmc 67-72. Have eye brows to cover this. No lip. I'll post apick of gmc fenders.

Re: Question about fender????

Ah, I never knew that. So all GMCs have the eyebrow trim. I will have to pay attention to the GMC grille next time I see one. Thank you for taking the time to post the info and the pics, I appreciate it very much.

Re: Question about fender????

Well not all gmc had the eye brows trim. I Google 67 gmc and they have the same fender as I have but no upper grill and eyebrow trim. Go figure.

Re: Question about fender????

Are all GMC fenders made differently at the front like that though?

Re: Question about fender????

Yeah the extra lip he is talking about indicates 69-72 Chevy specific.

67 GMC and 67 Chevy = Same w/no extra lip on the front edge (no marker light)
68 GMC and 68 Chevy = Same w/no extra lip on the front edge (with marker light)
69 GMC up to 72 GMC = Same as 68 GMC (no change, w/no front lip, with marker light)
69 Chevy up to 72 Chevy are the same but the extra lip on the front edge of the fender had to be added. The 69+ grille is more 'straight up' or blocky looking than the 67-68 how it leans back at an angle a little. That's how they changed the pitch of the grille by adding that little indentation on the front edge of the fenders.

The coveted 67 GM fenders are like hens teeth.

Re: Question about fender????

Yep -- but it really shows the difference in the body lines seeing them together like that. It realy helped me to see what GM had to do with the fender to make it all line up.

I have heard in late 68 the GM Designers / Brass fired the guy that designed the 67-68 body style. (Big mistake IMO) I understand he worked for Mattel, or may have gone to Mattel afterward and worked on the Hot Wheels designs. Pretty cool. This also explains the beautiful bodylines on the 67-68 body style.

I like the 69 up too, no doubt. The way it was explained to me is the other makes were going to a more 'blocky' muscular look and GM thought their trucks were too pretty. They needed a more muscular work truck look. That brought on the body changes in 69+.

Again, .. not good or bad .. just reasons for the body changes. I own a 68 Chevy and a 70 GMC so my opinions are neutral either way. I love them both.

I like both styles but really like the 67-68 hood and love the 71-72 grille.
