Power Steering Lines?
I need to connect my 73-87 style power steering box to my 2002 5.3L style pump. Does anyone know if this will work? If anyone has a part number for factory style hoses, pressure and return, that I can get at the local parts store I would like that better!

Re: Power Steering Lines?
Take the fitting out of the back of your original pump and put it in the 5.3 pump and your done price of cake watch out there is a spring behind the fitting

Re: Power Steering Lines?
My truck was manual steering, so I am starting from scratch. Thanks for the info though.

Re: Power Steering Lines?
Just go to the pull apart and get the fitting from the pump just make sure it matches the year of you steer box they changed to metric in 76 or 77 and get the new hose from napa or the zone

Re: Power Steering Lines?
Just to catch this thread up, my lines are built. I used AN fittings and -6 braided hose. For my LS engine and 73-87 style steering box the fittings where:
Power steering pump fitting - 16mm x 1.5 O-ring, Earl's part # 991955erl (1 of these) Gear box fittings - 11/16-18, P/N 991950erl and 5/8-18, P/N 991947erl (1 of each) I also used 3 -6 90° swivel hose ends. Summit P/N SUM-220687B The fittings where about $55 and braided hose is about $3.75 a foot from summit. I used about 4ft of hose (that I already had) with waste so you can figure about $70. Factory style hoses from the local parts store run around $30 a piece, so for $10 buck more you can have stainless braided hoses that fit the way you want.

Re: Power Steering Lines?
That came out nice ! Do you know if those gearbox fittings would fit the 67-72 Gearbox ? Any special tools or cutters required for the steel braided line, or AN fittings ?

Re: Power Steering Lines?
buck, both fittings were 16mmx1.5 oring? most later saginaw boxes have 18mm on the pressuer side and the 16mm on the return. just curious cuz I'm gonna do the same thing.

Re: Power Steering Lines?
Did you use regular an rubber hose. Doing something similar and was told I needed Teflon for the high pressure side.

Thanks! *UPDATE: To avoid a leaky hose use these part numbers and you'll be good to go. The Russell power Flex is for the pressure side and the Summit parts are for the low pressure return. Live and learn. Updated Quantities and Part Numbers: 2 ea -6 to 90° hose ends (RUS-620421) 3 ft Russell power flex hose (RUS-632600) 1 ea -6 90° swivel hose end (SUM-220687B) 3 ft Summit -6 braided hose (SUM-230603) 1ea EAR-991947ERL -6 TO 5/8-18 (box) 1ea EAR-991950ERL -6 TO 11/16-18 (box) 1ea EAR-991955ERL -6 TO 16MM X1.5 (pump) Note: I didn't use the full 3 feet of either hose, cut and fit them how you like.

Re: Power Steering Lines?
Less costly is what I done. Took my hose to a shop and had them take out some of the length and add a swivel joint in the middle to give me some adjustment on direction of where I wanted. I did change the fitting on the pump side also. All together $20 for the swap.

Re: Power Steering Lines?
It's the fitting closest to the frame rail.

Re: Power Steering Lines?
I was working off the serpentine setup needed to get some of the length as well as a twist out of the setup.

Re: Power Steering Lines?
Nope. But, I think I may make them (the hoses) a bit longer to give a more gentle turn (180°) to the steering box.

Re: Power Steering Lines?
For informational purposes the steering gear box fittings provided above are good for 1968-1979. The 1980-1987 steering gear boxes use M16 x 1.5 and M18 x 1.5 fittings.
