Serpentine Belt System Help
I am installing a GM serpentine belt system on a customers 72 C10 2WD and I have a problem with the lower radiator hose. There is no room for a hose to clear the frame under the aluminum bracket that the AC Compressor and Belt Idler are attached to. The original hose wont fit without kinking, and I tried a hose for an 89 C10 with a serpentine system, but it won't fit either. I am thinking that if no one can help me that I might have to make a pipe to go over the frame with a hose at both ends. Anyone who has solved this problem, I would appreciate the help.
Charles

Re: Serpentine Belt System Help
Put two of these on myself. The stock lower hose will work with a slight kink you are right but have ran that this way. But after a few hrs working with it i have about 95% of any of the kink out. If you are concerned about the kink your best bet would be to make a curved pipe like you mentioned or remove a portion of the serp bracket with a cutting wheel. That would be the only way to clear the frame without the kink.

Re: Serpentine Belt System Help
I used the bendable corrugated chrome type hoses that only have a small piece of rubber at both ends. I am not positive but I think they help in cooling too. Just cause my 406 has never overheated.
You ARE talking about a stock 1992 or so serpentine system?

Re: Serpentine Belt System Help
I "relieved" both the frame and the bottom of the bracket just enough to get most of the kink out and still used the stock hose.

Re: Serpentine Belt System Help
Looks like a Be Cool hose kit, they can be found online or they are always for sale at the bigger shows with vendors.
I would just use a piece of tube and the factory hose as ends. I just did this on my 71, I swapped in a 454 out of a 96 3500, and the outlets and inlets didn't match, so I build an adapter after trying about 3 different hoses. |
