need a pic of behind a 73-74 grill

i have a 79 chevy k10 wit a broken grill. i have a nice 73-74 gmc grill. it is thicker than my original one and wont fit. does anyone have a picture of what holds the grill in on a 73-74. the guy i bought it from told me they were all interchangeable..they're not. it has mounting tabs on the sides that i dont have anything to hook to. do i just need the grill mounts on the cors support?

any help is appreciated

Uh, I think you want a picture of the core support without the grill on it right? I just so happen to have my bare core support still on my truck so I will try and remember to take a pic for you tomorrow as well as some other pics...but no guarantees on when I can get em posted...lol

I hope this will help ya, but it will probably be a week before I got em, unless I can get a digicam this weekend. Just PM me soon if you don't have one yet and I'll let ya know.

here are a couple pics of my 73 taken about 7 years ago...hope it helps. I do know 73-74 grills will only fit 73-74 trucks...it may be possible on newer models with some modification.

you have to change the center support the one that pops the hood the earlier years had the hood releas handle off to the side while the years up had it in the middle. I changed mine and thats all i had to do also the two supports on the ousides where or are the same.

73-74 grills are specific to those years. You either have to cut an access in the grill to make it work ( I don't recommend this as it removes a support and looks bad), or get the latch/support specific to those trucks.

thanks everybody

i wasnt expecting so much help. bigblock73's first picture is wexactly what i was looking for. his center support is bent inward more than mine is. i took my center supposrt completely out and it still sticks out an inch or so. the way the grill is i cant just shave the extra off or it will show. the grill is a gmc out of a 73-74 with a 454. it has gmc in the center and 454 in hte lower right corner. do i need to change the top section that goes across the support, the whole support.?

thanks

it wont work on mine. what year grill did you put in and into what year truck?

i took the center thing all the way out and the grill hits on the 2 other supports and makes it stick out to far. i even unbolted them and tried to put them on upside down to get the angle right. i want it to sit flush just like the original one did. was your grill oout of a bib block? is your truck a big block? i wonder if that makes a difference.

if anybody knows i would appreciate it
