SHIMMY/SHAKE what could it be?
My '85 Suburban developed a very annoying rough ride. It occurs at about 55 - 60 MPH. I had a universal joint replaced but no help. I have changed the wheels and had them balanced 3 times without any luck. I thought it was a tire but my Goodyear dealer says they all balance. By the way each time I had them balanced they said they all needed balanced. I used two different shops. Any suggestions what else to look for? Thanks.

My first thought would be unbalanced tires, too. I just went through that with our Pathfinder. We got 4 new BF Goodrich All-Terrains put on this spring. Recently I noticed a vibration, brought the wheels in to be rebalanced and was told the same thing - "they were all out of balance" - go figure.
My other thought would be drive shaft. Take a look to see if it has thrown a weight. It should be noticable on the shaft if a weight is missing. Just my $.02. |

I would bet the dealer says that because he doesn't want to replace the tire that is bad.
Keep in mind that he is a mechanic and they are ALL crooks. Like the old sain' goes; When you are too sorry to be a cop...........you become a mechanic. |

its gotta be a tire definit cure change out the tires one by one witht he spare and see if the vibration goes away or lessens or something that way you can try to isolate it some

Could one of the wheels be bent or out of round?

I have the same type of problem. I balanced them all and it still is there. I had a tire blow out and get replaced and it is almost all the way gone.

Just a thought - might be a bald spot on one or more of the tires.
BTW: I had replaced all my tires for a while with another set and it made it worse.
