Wondering how many people out there have put together their own websites (either for your truck or Family)and what program did you use? I am learning HTML but I would think
it would be much better just just buy a program at Best Buy and drag and drop all my items and create it that way. Any info would be great.

I use netscape composer and cute HTML and then Cute FTP for transfering (all free programs except for the cute programs I did pay 20.00 to register them)

Any of the MS proggies for making the page are easy to use and Flash FTP to upload.

Mostly Microsoft FrontPage 2002. Also, whatever stuff they have for my freeservers site. I do most of my photopages with ACDSee, then transfer/merge the files into whatever I am using for the rest of the work. I'm still experimenting with the web page side of things so who knows if that is a good combo or not....works so far.

Dreamweaver. Period.

FrontPage has too many Windows-centric quirks. Web pages should adhere to standards so any browser can view them regardless of which operating system they are running.

If you have any experience with Adobe programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) look into GoLive. It's comparable to Dreamweaver.

Yes, these programs cost more, but...you get what you pay for.

If you're learning HTML, you must be somewhat serious about learning web design. Check out the serious tools.

I use my 8 fingers and 2 thumbs. I guess I'm just used to being a VI junkie.

The only IDEs I use (Integrated Development Environment) are NetBeans and TogetherSoft, which integrate language development, the web and EJB containers, the modeling tools, and the documentation for reference. They can generate things like HTML, but I usually just write it by hand, because I HATE generated formatting. HTML should be clean and easy to read:

Dreamweaver is, by far, the best WYSIWYG web page editor. I've used Front Page and canned it because it was messing up certain scripts, on purpose.

I used Microsoft Frontpage but to use any of the advanced features....the site that hosts it must use FrontPage Extensions....

I don't really like it but I am not a developer and don't want to spend the time to learn HTML.

I'm with Cobalt on this one. I developed and maintain the web page for the bass fishing circuit I fish on here in Minnesota. The stuff that comes out of frontpage and the others is garbage. I have Golive! and never use it. The stuff you generate by hand can be maintained and updated by hand. It also doesn't look one way on Exploder and another on Netscrape.

Check out the MN Pro/Am Bass Tour. You'll notice it looks the same on Netscrape and Exploder. If you "view source" on any of the pages you'll also notice that it doesn't take 20 pages of html code for each page.

I do use PhotoShop on almost every page.

I agree with COBALT also. I learned HTML before there was any editors. I do sometimes use specific editors depending on if I am working on PHP or Java. I use Sausage HotDog for most editing. It highlights my tags and I have learned the hot keys for most of the more common tags so my coding is quicker. I still maintain a good format and don't have the unnecessary garbage that Frontpage leaves behind. I am currently setting up my hosting company www.aristacom.net. I have used html and PHP and some java for most of it. The main thing is to find an editor or set of tools you like and learn them well. That is where your speed and efficiency come from.

I just got Flash MX 2004 I am playing with it now. Trying to sign up for a course on it.

I also for got to mention I create my own graphics using Photoshop of course.

CPNE- I use the web tools to buy the cool tools that you mentioned. Unfortunately things have been slow so no new cool tools

I would love to do a some high profile sites and set back a few grand for a garage.

On the side I write back-end apps and interfaces for a large Boston firm that still requires COBOL on a VAX!

Not sexy, not cool, but pays REAL well. No one else can (or wants) to do that type of work today. COBALT would like it, lots of typing

...and you have to write your own I/O routines
