Steel Wheel Help

I've got a 70 C/10 with six lug drums all around and I'm planning on doing an ECE 4/6 drop with 5 lug disc swap. I'm trying to figure out what OEM style steel wheels I should try to find. I want to be able to run dog dishes. I've read that converting to disc in front will widen the track width so I need narrower wheels in front and wider in back for an even look down the side. So, I guess I'm asking what size wheel do I need to run in front (gotta clear disc brakes) and back? Also, where's the best place to find them (or best search terms for CL)

I've been looking through the forum and it seems that 15x8 is common for the back but I'm not sure about the front. 6, 6.5, 7???

Anyone have experience with this type of setup? Maybe some pics?

Thanks

Re: Steel Wheel Help

You should be able to find 5-lug 15x7 (truck) and 15x6.5(van) steel wheels in the 73-87 section. All the wheels in this age category should clear disk brakes.

Re: Steel Wheel Help

So I gues either of those would be fine for the front? How about the back? 15x8, 15x10? Were there any 16" factory steel wheels?

Is your rear end 5 or 6 lug. With it being a 70, I would think it has wider rear end, so I think 15x8 might be max with a stock steel wheel without it sticking out past the bedsides.

Re: Steel Wheel Help

It's currently 6 but I would be swapping to a 5 lug setup on the rear. I haven't measured yet to see if I have the narrower 67-70 rear end or the wider 71-72.

Re: Steel Wheel Help

If you have the narrower rearend 15x8 or 15x10 should fit (not sure if there is a factory 15x10 steel wheel) However, I know stockton wheel makes them but they are pretty pricey.

Re: Steel Wheel Help

I am running a setup now that is similar to the direction you are going. ECE front suspension with 2.5 drop spindles, 1" lowering springs, 5-lug with disc brakes and running the stock 15x6.5 steelies with caps up front. The only modification you may need to do up front is trim the drip rails on the lower control arms - an easy modification that many have done though I was able to get around this by running the stick on balancing weights on the inside of the rim. For the rear - All ECE components, 4" lowering springs, super track bar with shock relocation kit, drum rear with 5-lug. Had Wheel Vintiques make a pair of 15x8's for the rear.
