Timing light
I need to buy a timing light. Any reccomendations on brands/models, things to look for?

Where in Ca do you live? If you're just looking for a cheap one, I will give you the extra one I have. I got it when I helped my mother-in-law clean her garage.
It's an ancient model, but probably never used or just used once or twice. |

I've got a cheap $30 Euqus timing light that works just fine.
There is a kind that measures total timing that i would get....i can't quite remeber what they are called though...

yeah i want the kind that you can measure and adjust timing and vaccuum advance and all the good stuff. i am mad at my dad for not having one

why are you mad at your dad go out and get your own a good light aint cheap. my snap on light cost me 475. and im 19 u shouldnt depends on ur parents to buy stuff for you. YOUR the one who needs the light not your dad. but anyways snap on makes about the best light i have ever used the one i have it has a built in tach advance up to 180 degrees. plus the cord is made into the light so it wont fall out the part number is mt2261ap its almost 500 bucks but worth it in my opinion

he's had other projects in the past and should have already had one. i didn't realize that they were that important.
500 is a little much to be spending on a timing light for my college budget.

Like i said, you can get a decent light for $30 or more. If you use it every day, i wouldn't get a cheap one, but i only use mine 3 or 4 times a year tops, so cheap is good
 The kind that measures total advance is night (dial back timing light isn't it??), but you can also measure total advance by putting timing tape on your harmonic balancer, which is what i use.

IMO a very good light that isn't badly priced is a Sears Craftsman.
You can buy an adjustable timing light from them for about $60.00
