Power steering pump squawking

OK, I just installed a Hydraulic brake booster. So I drained and flushed the system. When I turn the wheel and/or apply the brakes. I get this loud squawking noise. There is also a fibration in the wheel or pedal, depending on what I'm using. Do I need to bleed or adjust the system? Or is it a sign that the old pump is struggling with the added load? Thanks in advance.

Re: Power steering pump squawking

Sounds like the pump is cavitating or pumpimg air. crank the truck turn the wheels all the way to one side and then shut it off and then fill. if that does'nt work after a few tries, jack the front wheels off the ground and rotate from lock to lock this time with the engine off do that several times then check the flid level. Go back over the lines and make sure the fittings are not positioned so that you could have air trapped somewhere. Jim

hydroboost seems to make it harder to bleed the system. i have found that it helps to disconct the coil and spin the engine some with the starter. this will pump some fluid through the system without the pump cavitating and making the foam worse.

Tutt - "i have found that it helps to disconct the coil and spin the engine some with the starter". The coil??? I'm a rookie, do you mean loosen the HP side on the hydraulic brake? The HP line leaves the pump and goes into the brake system and the HP goes to the Steering pump. There is a by-pass hose on the return too!

Is the belt good and tight? It could be slipping under a load. The coil is what the center tower of the distributor cap wire goes too.

OK, DUH the coil! I thought there was something on the pump, you were calling the coil. The belt seems tight, but i"ll check it. It's not a losse belt squeek.

I think he means the coil that you get your spark from...if you disconnect it, the engine won't start up....you will just be bumping it over. Hense less foaming (which is air in the power steering) .....I think that what he meant

I cranked it over and over. I didn't set the choke and didn't give it any gas. I still have the Squawk (Not squweel). i will get the wheels back on tomorrow and see what's up.
